The Opportunity: Senior Estimator
This is a unique role combining estimating, business development, and market relationship management. We are looking for a self-directed professional who has deep connections in the Lower Mainland construction community, understands how to identify and pursue opportunities and is motivated by building pipelines and driving revenue growth. This role is designed for someone with general contractor or construction management experience who understands the full project lifecycle and can leverage their network to secure new work. The position will initially be office-based at the IDR office located in Richmond, with the opportunity and flexibility to transition to hybrid over time.
Responsibilities
Business Development and Market Engagement
Identify and pursue new project opportunities within the commercial construction market
Monitor bid platforms and market intelligence tools
Build and maintain relationships with developers, consultants, and key trades
Leverage existing industry connections to generate leads
Support leadership in developing pursuit strategies
Track and manage opportunity pipelines
Technical Estimating and Pre-Construction
Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates from drawings and specifications
Analyze tender documents, contract requirements, and project scopes
Develop comprehensive construction budgets and cost plans
Prepare bid forms, tender packages, and instructions to bidders
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing
Contact trades and consultants for budget and tender pricing
Review and compare bid submissions for completeness and accuracy
Maintain and update unit pricing databases and historical cost data
Identify cost risks, value engineering opportunities, and pricing strategies
Support Directors in preparing proposals and bid submissions
Participate in bid closing, tender reviews, and estimate presentations
Internal Operations Support
Help maintain project opportunity pipelines
Support internal coordination between estimating, operations, and leadership
Contribute to improving estimating and BD processes
Qualifications
8+ years of experience in commercial construction estimating with a General Contractor or Construction Management firm
Hands-on experience with construction estimating software (Sage experience is considered a strong asset)
Proven ability to prepare detailed estimates and tender submissions
Strong knowledge of CCDC contracts, local trades, consultants, and construction market conditions
Established relationships within the Lower Mainland construction industry
Experience working with developers and/or GC environments
Strong understanding of construction delivery methods and contracts
Self-directed, proactive, and relationship-focused
