The Opportunity
This role is all about building the brains and plumbing behind our investment ideas—crafting the tools, data pipelines, and platforms that power research, portfolio analysis, and decision-making. You’ll live in Python, SQL, and the cloud, rapidly prototyping new concepts with investment teams and turning the best ones into robust, production-ready solutions. One day you might be hacking together a fast-turnaround analytic for a portfolio manager; the next, you’re shaping longer-term platforms or experimenting with AI and LLMs to supercharge research workflows. It’s a great fit for someone who loves ambiguity, learns fast, and gets energy from collaborating directly with investors to build things that actually move the needle.
Role Responsibilities
Build internal tools and platforms that support investment research, portfolio analysis, and decision-making
Design and implement data pipelines, services, and APIs that make research data more accessible, reliable, and reusable
Develop prototypes quickly, test ideas with investment teams, and iterate into production-ready solutions
Partner directly with portfolio managers, analysts, and researchers to co-develop ideas, challenge assumptions, and build solutions together—using technology to elevate and scale investment thinking
Apply AI and LLM-based techniques where they meaningfully improve research workflows, productivity, or scalability
Be comfortable switching between longer-term platform build-out and ad-hoc investment needs—ranging from Excel-based analysis (e.g., DCFs) and legacy platform support to fast-turnaround analytics or data requests using in-house and market datasets
Take ownership of systems end-to-end: design, implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and continuous improvement
Collaborate with other engineers and technologists to keep the Lab’s architecture clean, extensible, and resilient as usage grows
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math or Finance, or a related field
1-4+ years of experience in investment technology
Demonstrated ability to build, analyze, or automate real-world systems through experience in engineering, finance, analytics, or a closely related field
Prior hands‑on experience with coding, data analysis, or technical tooling is required, even if gained outside a traditional software engineering role
Strong working knowledge of Python and SQL; comfort building backend services and APIs (e.g., FastAPI)
Experience working with cloud platforms and modern development workflows (Azure preferred)
Familiarity with data engineering concepts such as pipelines, data modeling, APIs, and service-based architectures
Strong interest in financial markets and investment research; experience working with market or company-level data—or the demonstrated ability to learn it quickly—is essential
Curiosity about AI-enabled tools and systems, with practical experimentation experience considered an asset
High learning velocity, sound technical judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving, less-structured environment
Clear communicator who takes ownership, works independently, and collaborates comfortably with investment professionals
