What will you be doing!
Supporting the directorate in the development and execution of the mission strategy.
Contributing to the Science & Technology (S&T) vision and mission for CNL.
Challenging and advising senior management on strategy based on knowledge of customers, customers’ needs, marketplace, technical area, environment, and policy.
Advising senior management on pursuing strategic growth by anticipating customer and market needs, and creating a vision of the future.
Defining, developing and leading technical collaborations that deliver growth in programs and capabilities.
Developing commercialization opportunities to drive program growth and CNL’s impact.
Contributing to the development and oversight of the Directorate's intellectual property strategy.
Providing technical leadership for the Directorate.
Seeking and promoting external interactions and leverage for the Directorate’s commercial mission.
Modelling integrity and leading by example. Demonstrating and communicating the expectation that everyone shall behave in a manner consistent with a healthy safety and security culture.
Building and maintaining a climate of trust. Acting transparently, respectfully, and fairly with all team members and stakeholders.
Promoting/initiating an environment that values willingness to implement new problem‑solving approaches.
Supporting CNL in the safe, secure, and compliant operations.
Encouraging and participating in facility/laboratory walk‑downs.
Promoting a respectful work environment such that reporting safety issues and concerns is encouraged, and issues are resolved.
Support in nurturing, guiding, and advancing the scientific capabilities – staff, facilities/labs, and equipment.
Supporting the successful execution of projects and programs to meet mission requirements.
Providing advice on the establishment of a product and services strategy.
Negotiating Scope of Work and deliverables with internal/external stakeholders.
Proposing the prioritization of scopes of work (i.e., what would achieve the overall strategy).
Optimizing alignment of activities with stakeholder expectations.
Collaborating with internal/external stakeholders to foster innovation, perform work, and help develop/capture strategy, promotion of S&T, outreach, proposal development, and stakeholder/customer engagement strategy.
Providing commercial delivery leadership, oversight, and guidance to line managers from programs within the Directorate.
Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What We Are Looking For
Education
A Master’s or PhD and 10 years or more of experience, OR a Bachelor's degree and 15 years or more of experience, acceptable or equivalent.
Experience
Experience, expertise, and knowledge of the Directorate’s commercial‑focused technical areas and capabilities.
Experience leading the delivery of commercial contracts to customers for more than 10 years.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Passion for science, technology, and discovery.
Recognized leadership in commercial delivery.
Organizational skills, in both the technical and business domains, inclusive of planning and progress monitoring.
Exceptional communication skills, with an ability to clearly articulate strategic and technical concepts to broad audiences.
Technical society membership and/or leadership in a Mission‑relevant field, desired.
Participation on standards committee(s) in a Mission relevant field, desired.
Security Clearance Eligibility Required
Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions
Travel is a regular part of the role, including international trips.
Visiting laboratories and facilities with radiation and other industrial hazards is required.

Location: Fully Onsite
This role is a
fully onsite role
that requires the employee to primarily work at CNL’s Chalk River Laboratory site, with only occasional opportunities to work remotely, if desired by the employee. Located in the heart of the
Ottawa Valley , our Chalk River site offers a beautiful natural setting with
forests, lakes, and wildlife , right at your doorstep. Surrounded by welcoming communities such as
