The Opportunity
Duties
Reporting directly to the Manager, Road Operations, assist with project delivery activities, infrastructure inspections, and maintaining daily reports. As the Student, Operations Engineering you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
Conduct sidewalk inspections to identify and report deficiencies or hazardous conditions within the Town’s right-of-way, including boulevards, traffic signs, street signs, and various municipal structures, ensuring compliance with Minimum Maintenance Standards (MMS)
Utilize GIS Field Maps to inspect and record real-time data on stormwater infrastructure, including catch basins, culverts, and storm ponds
Conduct accurate measurements of curbs, ditches, and other municipal infrastructure assets
Utilize Citywide to create Service Requests documenting deficiencies and resident complaints
Assist with project delivery activities related to road and infrastructure maintenance as required
Maintain daily inspection records and reports related to work performed
Maintain responsibility for assigned duties within the departmental and/or corporate Business Continuity Plan
Develop, maintain, and contribute to the improvement of job-related standard operating procedures
Participate in all mandatory training requirements
Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned
Adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and corporate policies to ensure a safe and compliant work environment
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an enthusiastic student who is returning in Fall 2026 to full-time post-secondary studies. Preference will be given to candidates enrolled in Civil Engineering, Engineering Studies, Environmental Sciences, or a closely related field.
The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of GIS Field Maps, Word, and Excel, along with strong mathematical and handwriting skills. Candidates must possess a valid G driver’s license with no more than three (3) demerit points and be able to provide their own CSA-approved safety boots for on-site work.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public, contractors, and staff, and will possess strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated customer service excellence, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Satisfactory proof of schooling or return to school may be requested.
