The Opportunity
We are looking for a Sr. Manager, Financial Reporting to join our team and oversee the company’s financial reporting and corporate compliance. In this role, you will report to the Director of Finance and lead two direct reports: the Senior Financial Reporting Analyst and the AP/AR Analyst.
Responsibilities
Own the full‑cycle accounting process to support monthly reporting and planning.
Review and approve manual journal entries and prepare complex entries such as payroll, reclasses, transfer pricing, and intercompany transactions.
Lead the timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
Prepare financial packages for external stakeholders on a quarterly basis.
Partner with the Director of Finance to prepare and release monthly reporting packages to the senior leadership team.
Own the successful completion of the year‑end audit and other assurance engagements, as required.
Mentor and support the Senior Financial Reporting Analyst.
Update the weekly/monthly business dashboard in collaboration with the Director of Finance.
Oversee data management, integrity, and accuracy of balance sheet, income statement, and other ledgers within the ERP system (NetSuite).
Corporate Compliance & Taxes
Manage the calendar of Canadian and U.S. tax and compliance requirements and ensure continuous compliance.
Oversee the relationship with the external accounting firm for corporate tax preparation.
Manage the relationship with Avalara Tax to ensure U.S. sales taxes/International VAT are appropriately charged and remitted.
Prepare and submit Canadian monthly, quarterly, and annual HST/GST returns.
Treasury & Cash Management
Review AP reports prepared by the AP Specialist weekly and approve payments.
Make wire payments to suppliers on a weekly basis.
Monitor cash balances across bank accounts to ensure obligations are met, including corporate credit card balances and limits.
Maintain cash‑flow forecasts in partnership with the Director of Finance.
Payroll
Run corporate payroll bi‑weekly via Wagepoint and calculate special payments (bonuses, retro payments, compensatory changes, terminations).
Maintain the payroll tax and compliance calendar.
Partner Management
Act as liaison to external auditors and other service providers throughout the year.
Maintain connections with banking, leasing, and insurance partners to ensure compliance.
Process Improvement
Drive continuous refinements in accounting processes to improve efficiency and visibility into key metrics.
Enhance processes and lead the implementation of new financial systems to automate activities and reduce reporting timelines.
Design, implement, and oversee key controls in financial reporting as necessary.
Collaborate with cross‑functional partners on ad‑hoc projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; CPA and/or CFA a plus.
Retail industry experience, specifically direct‑to‑consumer, is a plus.
Minimum of 6 years’ experience in financial accounting.
Demonstrated financial leadership skills with a focus on translating insights into operational recommendations.
Ability to present information concisely and clearly.
Proactive mindset with strong attention to detail.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and effective communication at all levels.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
