The vision for the Northland Finance team is to develop a high functioning, effective and efficient finance function with scalable capabilities and processes to support finance operations, business growth, and compliance. The Director of Corporate Accounting will be responsible for the accounting functions for the Northland group of companies with respect to primarily investment-based business units and operations, such as all capital assets and construction costs, Northland Capital Corp, the Development businesses, and for partnerships and joint ventures as owner and investor. In leading this accounting team, and as part of the overall Finance team leadership group, the Director will provide leadership that emphasizes continuous learning and improvement in optimizing the design and execution of the company\'s financial records and accounting processes; balancing resource allocation and process design to achieve both highly efficient outcomes that leverage the organization\'s size and scale, while maintaining an appropriate level of internal controls.

Responsibilities
People & Team Leadership
As a senior leader on the Finance team, you will provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to all members of the Accounting and broader Finance team members, working with the CFO to cultivate a supportive, collaborative and service oriented mindset across the team
Direct leadership and oversight of the Corporate Accounting team and the Payroll and Benefits Administration team
Functional Responsibilities
Accounting practices and processes for all Investment-based operations, including internal Construction and Design business unit, Northland Capital Corp, the Development businesses, capital/corporate accounts for Partnerships and Joint Ventures, and real estate holdings management, including administration of property taxes
Supporting the CFO in managing and administering the Northland group property and liability insurance portfolio
Collaborate with the FP&A team in the preparation and distribution of relevant period end financial reports for supported functional and business unit leadership (Construction, NCC, Development, etc) to provide the necessary financial information for informed decision-making
Working with legal, tax and other teams to ensure proper accounting for business acquisitions and combinations
Consolidation at all requisite levels within the global org chart
Preparation and issuance of all external financial statements, including entity level and consolidated financial statements
Leadership and coordination of all external audits among the Northland group of companies, excluding UK and Ireland domestic statutory audits provided the UK administrative team retains responsibility for these audits
Preparation and issuance of all bank reporting as required for compliance with all loan agreements, excluding as required for UK and Ireland loan compliance provided the UK administrative team retains responsibility for such reporting
Maintaining and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations as applicable to the Corporate Accounting team\'s responsibilities
Supervision of the Payroll and Benefits team, ensuring:
Accurate and consistent compensation and benefits processing, with constant emphasis of delivering an optimal employee experience
Proper administration and execution of all company bonus programs - unit-specific operational bonuses, annual STIP program and any other incentive programs
Strong and effective collaboration with HR and Legal teams with respect to employment practices
Other
Collaborate with FP&A and the CFO in the preparation and delivery of ownership and board level reporting
Overall administration and leadership of Financial Accounting system (D365) with respect to all financial accounts and transactions
Collaboration with the Director of Management Accounting to ensure all Northland accounting processes and transactions are executed in a timely and efficient manner, with an appropriate level of safeguards and internal controls to ensure financial reporting is issued without material misstatement.
Collaboration with the Director of Management Accounting to jointly oversee period-end, quarter-end and year-end closings effectively and efficiently, producing accurate financial reports in a timely manner, for both internal and external stakeholder requirements (auditors, financial partners, etc).
Collaboration with the Director of Management Accounting for investigating and resolving audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance, as well as:
Contributing to the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, policies and procedures.
Reviewing current processes and identifying opportunities for change.
Develop, implement and monitor financial controls.
Performing other accounting duties and supervising and mentoring junior staff
Assist the CFO and Northland senior leadership with special projects as needed
Have a continuous improvement and customer-service mindset, looking for opportunities to drive improved levels of service, speed, automation and reduce duplication to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of all finance functions in support of Northland\'s overall business success
Requirements
Bachelor\'s degree in Finance/Accounting or Business Administration, CPA Designation preferred.
10+ years in progressively more senior Finance or Accounting roles with experience managing teams.
Expertise in Canadian private company GAAP (ASPE).
Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 an asset.
Excellent communicator, self-motivated and driven team player with the ability to build relationships and community with coworkers and cross-functional partners.
Ability to train and manage staff.
