About the Insurance Company / The Opportunity:
Our client is a high growth insurance provider that needs a Corporate Counsel to join its growing legal team. In this role, you will provide strategic legal and regulatory guidance across insurance products, compliance, distribution, claims, and corporate initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for a Canadian-qualified lawyer looking to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic, growth-oriented organization.
Responsibilities:
Provide authoritative legal counsel to support the commercial and strategic objectives of the business.
Advise on legal and regulatory risks, and develop effective mitigation strategies to ensure robust corporate governance.
Oversee subsidiary corporate governance and compliance across all Canadian provinces, including Quebec.
Draft and review contracts related to insurance operations, ensuring alignment with current regulations.
Support and execute compliance initiatives, including research and policy development in evolving legal environments.
Design and deliver legal and compliance training programs for internal stakeholders.
Monitor and analyze new legislation, proactively recommending and implementing solutions as needed.
Participate in vendor management and cross-functional compliance projects, ensuring risk mitigation in agreements and initiatives.
Must-Have Skills:
LLB or JD from an accredited Canadian university and current license to practice law in Canada.
3-6 years of legal experience with a strong background in corporate/commercial law and insurance regulatory compliance.
Expertise in Canadian insurance law and regulatory matters across multiple provinces.
Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Superb accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver pragmatic, risk-based legal advice.
Exceptional time management and organizational skills in fast-paced environments.
Knowledge of marketing and advertising laws relevant to the insurance sector.
Experience working with commercial and technology contracts, including U.S. agreements or cross-border matters.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
Certification in data privacy or related areas.
French language bilingualism or working proficiency.
