We are seeking an analytically driven Director of Marketing & Specifications to lead our specification strategy, market positioning, and commercial alignment to support our next phase of growth.
This leadership role ensures that specification development, brand positioning, competitive intelligence, promotional investments, and training infrastructure directly translate into measurable revenue and margin performance.

What You’ll Be Doing:
Driving Alignment & Accountability
Develop and execute a structured specifications strategy that increases pull-through demand across priority product categories
Strengthen relationships within the Architect & Design community to ensure Formations is positioned early in the specification cycle
Align specification efforts with sales execution to convert specified projects into realized revenue
Oversee CEU programming, Lunch & Learns, trade engagement, and technical education initiatives that build credibility and preference
Monitor specification trends, project pipelines, and influence channels to anticipate market shifts
Oversee annual promotional investment planning including trade shows, digital initiatives, A&D engagement, and events
Coordinate cross-functional alignment between Marketing, Sales, Branch Operations, and Supply Chain to support project realization
Establish KPI frameworks that connect specification activity to measurable revenue performance
Monitor customer shifts, specification trends, and industry developments to guide strategic responses
Conduct structured competitor pricing research and market share analysis
Lead research into new markets including geographic expansion, product applications, and industry verticals
Identify opportunity gaps and competitive advantages and translate them into actionable initiatives
Leading People
Lead, coach, and develop a multi-functional marketing and specifications team
Oversee hiring, performance management, succession planning, and compensation recommendations for direct reports
Ensure structured onboarding and product knowledge programs support technical credibility with the design community
Establish accountability frameworks and succession planning within the department
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and measurable results
In an Average Week, You Might…
Start Monday reviewing marketing and Specifications KPIs to assess performance, identifying gaps and setting corrective direction
Meet with senior leadership to provide updates on specification performance, competitive risks, and growth opportunities
Approve marketing materials, campaign strategies, website updates, and event plans to ensure brand consistency and commercial effectiveness
Lead department meetings to monitor initiative progress, reinforce accountability to KPIs, and remove execution barriers
Review and approve presentation content for CEUs, Lunch and Learns, and trade engagement initiatives to ensure technical accuracy, brand consistency, and strategic alignment
Wrap up the week by approving the schedules for Lunch & Learns; CEU’s, trade show/tabletop events across the Branch locations.
What You Bring
Proven experience leading marketing and specification strategy in a B2B distribution, manufacturing, or building products environment
Strong understanding of specification-driven sales cycles and the Architect & Design community
Experience analyzing pricing, positioning, and competitive advantage within specified product categories
Experience managing multi-functional teams and developing leadership capability
Demonstrated ability to align marketing investment with measurable business outcomes
Excellent strategic thinking, analytical capability, and executive communication skills
A balance of big-picture vision and disciplined operational follow-through
Bonus Points
Experience in building materials, surfacing, architectural products, or interior finish industries
Strong understanding of Western Canadian market dynamics and A&D influence channelsExperience building structured training infrastructure tied to commercial performance
