Senior Communications Advisor, Media Relations & Issues Management Employment Type:

Short-term (approx 1 year) / Full-time

Location:

Burnaby, BC

Position Summary Reporting to the Manager, Media Relations & Issues Management, the Senior Communications Advisor is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications planning and advice in support of BC Housing’s corporate objectives. The role provides guidance on media relations, issues management, and communication strategies, prepares key messaging, responds to media, proactively pitches stories, develops event plans, and writes engaging content for all communications initiatives.

Candidate Profile Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public engagement, or related discipline.

Extensive experience in communications planning, issues management, media relations, and event management.

Equivalency: combined education, training, and experience acceptable.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

In-depth knowledge of communications theory and strategic planning.

Strong understanding of media relations, issue management, event planning, and stakeholder engagement.

Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Excellent organizational, time‑management, verbal, writing, editing, and presentation skills.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as a team.

Ability to build relationships with internal and external partners.

Strong writing and briefing skills; ability to prepare briefing notes, issues notes, and communications plans.

Ability to synthesize complex issues and propose solutions.

Working under tight deadlines, attentive to detail.

Handle confidential information with discretion.

Draft social media messaging.

Travel as required.

Occasional evenings, weekends, and after‑hours available.

Valid BC driver’s licence.

Responsibilities Key responsibilities include: developing and implementing communications strategy; advising BC Housing leadership; managing media requests; crafting key messaging; pitching stories; event planning; creating content; monitoring media and issues; providing strategic advice; mitigating risks; coordinating with partners; leading communication projects.
