Job Description

Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projets are undertaking the design, build, and finance of the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.

As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.

The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the project?

A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).

Stations:

One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.

Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.

Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job Description The IT Infrastructure Engineer will support and maintain critical network, security, and communication systems across a major tunnel construction project. This fully on‑site role involves managing Fortinet and Ubiquiti network equipment, maintaining CCTV and access control systems, and ensuring reliable LTE/Wi‑Fi and UHF communication networks in challenging field environments.

This position requires frequent travel to multiple active construction sites, strong problem‑solving skills, and clear communication with both technical and construction teams. Candidates must be comfortable working in rugged conditions and be available for on‑call support to ensure seamless operational continuity across the project.

Key Responsibilities:

Network Infrastructure Management

Configure, manage, and maintain Fortinet firewalls, switches, and security appliances to ensure a secure and resilient network.

Oversee Ubiquiti wireless and routing equipment for stable and optimized connectivity across project sites.

Utilize Meraki knowledge (if applicable) to support or integrate systems when required.

LTE/Wi‑Fi Underground Network: Support, monitor, and troubleshoot LTE and Wi‑Fi radio systems in tunnels and other difficult environments to ensure continuous service.

Site Communications & Security Systems

Maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot IP camera systems, NVRs, and networked video infrastructure.

Operate and support access control hardware/software to maintain site security and compliance.

Oversee UHF radio equipment, ensuring reliable communication for construction and safety teams.

Track system performance, maintain configuration records, and provide reporting as required.

Field Operations & Physical Environment Support

Work safely and effectively in muddy, dusty, wet, underground, and confined environments.

Perform site visits across multiple locations to install, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment.

Carry and manage field tools and technical equipment (backpack up to approx. 10 kg and devices up to 15 kg).

Support installation and physical deployment of networking equipment in active construction zones.

Support & Operational Continuity

Provide on‑call support for urgent system issues outside standard hours.

Communicate clearly with construction crews, contractors, engineering teams, and technical staff.

Work both independently and collaboratively to resolve issues, optimize systems, and ensure seamless operations.

Manage multiple priorities, adapt to evolving site needs, and escape issues appropriately.

Qualifications

Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, or a related field.

Valid G Class Drivers License.

Minimum 4 years of industry experience, ideally in construction, industrial, or similar environment; experience working on large-scale infrastructure or construction projects preferred.

Proven hands‑on experience with Fortinet and Ubiquiti network equipment.

Networking certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or Fortinet NSE is an asset.

Familiarity with Meraki networking equipment is an asset.

Knowledge of CCTV, access control, LTE/Wi‑Fi radio networks, and UHF radio systems.

Ability to work in physically demanding, outdoor, and challenging site conditions.

Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in the field.

Willingness to participate in on‑call rotation.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 15 kg and a tool‑filled backpack weighing approximately 10 kg.

Comfortable working in wet, muddy, dusty, underground, confined, or elevated environments.

Capable of frequent site travel and extended periods of field work.
