Job Description

Position Overview SMUS Camps delivers summer boarding camps for students aged 13‑16 between June 28 and August 15, 2026. The camps include a four‑week English Language Learners (ELL) program and four one‑week camps in basketball, volleyball, music and rugby, open to both domestic and international students.

The School is seeking a male Senior Houseparent (SHP) to support our boys’ dormitories. The SHP will work under the Boarding Coordinator to ensure consistency of care for the students living on campus, providing leadership and guidance to houseparents when the Coordinator is not on duty.

Responsibilities

Supervise morning, afternoon, and evening check‑in.

Coordinate whole‑dorm laundry on laundry days.

Join and support evening and weekend activities.

Pick‑up and drop‑off campers at the airport or ferry as necessary.

Provide care for students who are ill and cannot attend class.

Fill in when other duty parents are unavailable.

Facilitate student experience – homesickness, roommate conflicts, personal problems, making friends, and adapting to the boarding environment.

Assist with administrative tasks such as taking passports on arrival or distributing spending money.

Open and close major facilities such as the Sun Center, gym, and lecture theatre.

Supervise Student Ambassadors and ensure cooperative interaction with international guest students.

Maintain a daily communication log for incidents, lost items, and information for teachers.

Keep the office and Common Room neat and tidy, ensuring recycling, food removal, garbage emptiness, and equipment storage.

Provide on‑call supervision shifts from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am on weekdays and 12:00 am to 7:00 am on weekends.

Provide banking services to students who need to withdraw money from the safe.

Submit maintenance and housekeeping requests as needed.

Prepare weekly check‑in sheets.

Arrange transportation for students from Victoria Airport and ferry terminal.

Coordinate overseas arrivals and departures and oversee supervision for overnight arrivals.

Maintain an accurate medication record and secure medication location.

Assist with emergency drills (fire, earthquake) scheduled by the Boarding Coordinator.

Enforce house rules and hold disciplinary meetings with the Boarding Coordinator.

Act as point of contact for houseparents when the Boarding Coordinator is unavailable.

Attend weekly meetings with the Activity Coordinator and the Boarding Coordinator.

Act as lead on activities when the Activity Coordinator is not present.

Qualifications

Completed or currently enrolled in relevant post‑secondary education (Business, Recreation, Education).

At least one year of experience working with youth aged 12‑17.

Previous experience in SMUS Summer Boarding Program is an asset.

Experience working in a multicultural environment.

Understanding of the developmental and emotional needs of adolescents.

Ability to work cooperatively and develop positive relationships with international students.

Effective written and oral communication skills.

Ability to follow instructions and work independently.

Working knowledge of an Asian language or Spanish is an asset.

Tactfulness and diplomacy.

Basic First Aid training.

WHMIS training.

Pay & Benefits Hourly pay range: $26.58 – $31.27.

Criminal Record Check Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for working with children.
