Project Director – Toronto, ON
Harbinger Network is proud to partner with a well-respected construction company specializing in Building/Exterior envelopes for the High Rise Residential market. With a strong reputation for operational discipline and quality execution, our client is seeking an experienced Project Director to provide executive-level oversight of project and field operations.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the President, the Project Director is responsible for overseeing and directing assigned Project Management and Field Management teams across all awarded projects. From drafting and design through take-off, breakdown, production, delivery, and installation, the Project Director ensures projects are delivered on schedule, within prescribed timelines and budgets, and to defined quality standards. This is a senior leadership position requiring strong technical acumen, operational control, and the ability to mentor high-performing teams while driving accountability and continuous improvement.
Leadership & Senior-Level Responsibilities
Mentor and lead Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Field Directors, and Field Managers.
Foster an environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and respect.
Collaborate with other Directors to resolve and improve operational processes.
Work with Engineering to resolve technical challenges.
Partner with Project Management and Field teams to establish timelines and client communications.
Conduct performance reviews, oversee resource planning, and provide weekly/monthly operational updates.
Participate in recruitment and hiring within the department.
Represent the organization professionally with clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
Prepare and/or review Change Orders (CCOs) and ensure timely client submission.
Attend consultant, coordination, and site meetings as required.
Exercise discretion, judgment, and professionalism in handling confidential matters.
Operate independently while maintaining alignment with corporate objectives.
Job-Specific Responsibilities
Establish and maintain the Project Management and Field Management team structure.
Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and on quality.
Set departmental goals and hold teams accountable for performance and deliverables.
Develop employee project goals, work plans, timelines, and implementation strategies.
Ensure monthly project reports are prepared and issued by Project Managers.
Assist Project Managers in developing detailed schedules (shop drawings, material take-offs, procurement, production, delivery, installation).
Ensure Operations receives accurate project start dates and ongoing schedule updates.
Review project scope, specifications, and tender documents; identify discrepancies and prepare startup checklists.
Review and comment on subcontracts, purchase orders, change orders, and contract progress draws.
Review and approve monthly project progress draws.
Facilitate cross-functional reviews of shop drawings to meet client requirements and improve manufacturability and installation efficiency.
Coordinate with Supply Chain to ensure materials align with project timelines.
Lead meetings with Project Managers, Production, and Field teams to address and resolve schedule or operational obstacles.
Develop and maintain departmental protocols and processes to enhance execution.
Conduct site walks as required.
Work closely with Field Directors and site teams to resolve escalated issues.
Arrange and attend internal and client meetings to support project goals and deadlines.
Prepare professional correspondence including letters, reports, and meeting minutes.
Perform other duties as assigned by the President.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Architectural Technology, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering.
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or equivalent experience preferred.
Minimum 8+ years of leadership experience managing technical staff within the construction industry.
Proven success overseeing multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Strong understanding of construction documentation, contracts, financial controls, and scheduling.
Working Conditions
Combination of office and active construction site environments.
Construction safety footwear and hard hat required for site visits.
Occasional travel to sites, clients, or suppliers.
Flexibility to work extended hours as required.
