Station Design Engineer
to lead and support the engineering and development of
Municipal (MS) and Transformer Substations (TS) . In this role, you will deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective substation design solutions while ensuring full compliance with provincial regulations, utility requirements, and industry standards.
This position is ideal for an experienced electrical engineer who excels in detailed design, systems integration, and technical studies within the power and utility sector.
Pay Rate: $95,000 - $135,000 per year (based on experience, skills, and P.Eng status)

Responsibilities
Substation Detailed Design
Develop complete engineering design packages for substations, including single-line diagrams, general arrangement layouts, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and DC supply systems.
Produce accurate and constructible drawings that meet client, utility, and regulatory specifications.
Protection, Control & Systems Integration
Design and integrate Protection & Control (P&C) systems, including relay settings and coordination.
Support SCADA/RTU integration to ensure seamless communication and system performance.
Engineering Studies
Perform critical engineering studies such as:
Arc Flash assessments
Short Circuit analysis
Grounding studies following IEEE guidelines
Cable ampacity and thermal calculations
Connection Impact Assessments (CIA)
Technical Documentation & Procurement Support
Prepare and review technical specifications, Bills of Materials (BoM), and tender packages.
Provide engineering support for equipment procurement, including transformers, switchgear, and protection devices.
Project Execution & Field Support
Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and on-site inspections.
Review and verify As-Built drawings, commissioning documents, and energization packages.
Ensure all design work aligns with IEEE, IEC, CSA standards, Ontario Regulation 22/04, and the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC).
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, or eligible for licensure within 12 months.
5 to 7 years of hands‑on experience in substation engineering and electrical utility design.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
Experience using engineering software such as CYME or ETAP is highly desirable.
Strong understanding of protection schemes, grounding design, utility standards, and substation equipment.
Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for client and stakeholder coordination.
Self‑motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Must be legally eligible to work, and reside in Canada.
