Responsibilities

The Economic Development Officer supports the City’s Economic Development Division by implementing, monitoring, and reporting on initiatives that advance Peterborough’s key economic sectors. This role leads project planning and execution, engages business and community stakeholders, and provides advisory support to local employers and investors. Responsibilities include conducting economic research and data analysis, identifying funding opportunities, supporting policy development, and contributing to marketing, business retention and expansion and investment attraction efforts. The position also maintains economic content and investment‑ready property inventories, collaborates on workforce development strategies, and prepares reports and budget inputs, while supporting equity, diversity, and Truth and Reconciliation priorities in economic planning. Qualifications

Qualifications include a university degree in Business Administration, Economic Development, Economics, Urban Planning, or a related field, with at least three years of progressive economic development experience, ideally in the public or municipal sector; a Master’s degree or Ec.D. certification is an asset. The role requires strong knowledge of economic development processes, growth strategies, planning principles, marketing, and land development, along with excellent analytical, research, and report‑writing skills. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication, leadership, problem‑solving, and relationship‑building abilities, and be adaptable in a dynamic, innovative environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, economic development CRM tools, GIS, and graphic design software is required, along with strong presentation skills and the ability to attend offsite meetings and travel regularly.
