Night Operations Assistant Store Managers (ASMs) supervise Back End Operations, such as Receiving, RTV, and Freight. They collaborate with the Fulfillment Team ASM to ensure each store is "Grand Opening Day Ready" every day by ensuring proper merchandising, optimizing operational efficiency, and driving safety standards and compliance throughout the store. ASMs work with the Store Manager and other ASMs to improve overall store profitability, solve problems, and train and develop Associates.
Position Responsibilities
Recruit, interview applicants, and make hiring recommendations to the store manager.
Recommend terminations, promotions, demotions, new associates’ rate of pay, and performance-based pay increases.
Communicate store and Home Depot objectives to associates.
Coach, train, and develop associates through informal on-floor coaching and formal written evaluations.
Communicate clear career paths to minimize turnover in all process areas.
Ensure operational excellence in all Back End areas.
Manage staff scheduling to meet the demands of the truck schedule.
Ensure merchandise is received correctly (carton count only at dock) and efficiently and safely delivered to the sales floor.
Ensure the store is "Grand Opening Day Ready" each day by walking with the Fulfillment Team ASM in the mornings and the closing ASM in the evenings for proper handoff.
Survey the area at the beginning of the shift to develop a plan of action, prioritizing tasks and updating the plan as shift demands change.
Ensure Receiving and Freight teams work together smoothly to make the store “Grand Opening Day Ready.”
Manage Receiving and Freight efficiency through observation, analysis, trend identification, problem definition, and appropriate response development.
Take actions to minimize shrink.
Lead and utilize the Chalk Talk process to communicate store sales, event, and promotional activity (Monthly Playbook) to all associates, focusing on Process Team Associates.
Assess associates’ training needs across all sales and customer service aspects and implement improvement plans.
Demonstrate knowledge of all Home Depot programs and services and communicate these to customers and associates (e.g., Credit, SF&I, ESPs, Pro Sales, Tool Rental).
Understand and train on sales and inventory reports related to Key Performance Indicators for assigned departments and the store.
Ensure all daily inspections are completed.
Follow up on all safety audits, accident reports, and investigation issues.
Ensure all Associates are properly trained and follow procedures for shipping, storing, managing, and disposing of hazardous materials.
Ensure driver safety and DOT compliance.
Take an active role in the execution of safety awareness programs.
Develop and communicate store standards for Receiving and Freight activities to Associates.
Develop strategy with the Store Manager and other ASMs to drive store sales and profitability.
Lead Associates, collaborate with peers and the Store Manager to anticipate and solve problems, and plan for upcoming events and seasonal changes.
Verify deposits, markdowns, deliveries, time slip refunds, etc.
Follow standard operating procedures to open and close the store when scheduled.
Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Store Manager.
Experience/Knowledge Required
Must fulfill minimum one year in position and performance management code requirements (V2 – Valued Associate, Well Positioned).
Minimum two years of management experience.
Excellent customer service skills.
Good communication skills.
Computer experience is a must.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Team player.
Strong work ethic, sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
The pay range for this position is between $60,000.00 - $70,000.00.
