Job Description
The Senior Controls Engineer is responsible for providing technical support and services in the design, development, testing, production and operation of electrical equipment and systems, as outlined by the Manager.
Role & Responsibilities
Program and debug structure text and ladder logic code on multiple PLC controller platforms (Allen Bradley, Bosch-Rexroth, Codesys)
Develop code that is organized, structured, documents, maintainable and reusable
Use AutoCAD Electrical to update design drawings
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical issues during testing, on-site installation, and warranty calls
Startup of AC drives, Servo Drives & cut-to-length systems
Create robust programs and sequences to control complex, multi-station machinery to preform processes such roll forming, material handling, packaging
Set high standards of performance, assume responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments or tasks
Follow the engineering schedule for each project by establishing critical path deliverables for checking and ensure that the Master Production Schedule is not sacrificed due to late releases of engineering
Ensure efficient use of time and workflow by planning work and keeping work area organized and clean
Collaborate with supervisors and co-workers to ensure an on-time quality product and to accomplish work goals
Maintain positive and productive working relationships with manager, other shop workers, and engineering and office staff
Be courteous and helpful when dealing with customers, suppliers and with coworkers
Maintain effective performance under pressure. Handle stress in a manner that is acceptable to others and to the company
Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and policies as outlined in the Company Health and Safety Manual
Mentor other employees
Follow all plant safety rules
Follow departmental processes required by ISO and actively participate in recommending improvements
Follow lockout/tagout procedures on live equipment before performing any work
Qualifications
Engineering degree, undergraduate degree or College diploma in electrical or mechanical engineering or technology with emphasis on control systems
Five years Technologist experience working in an electrical controls field
Five years PLC and HMI programming with more than one manufacturer platform
Five years working extensively with RSLogix 5000 & 500 or Bosch Rexroth software
Ability to use AutoCAD to modify design drawings
HMI and PLC Programming (multiple platforms)
Debugging and trouble shooting
Problem solving
Device Networking
Ability to use a multi meter to take measurements
Ability to use a scope measurements
Ability to manage time
Equipment integration
Other
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time or as needed
Ability to work occasional weekend and/or evening as necessary in order to meet quality and due dates
