Sr. Systems and Infrastructure Administrator Senior Systems & Infrastructure Administrator

Department : IT

Reports to : IT Service Delivery Manager

Job Summary : Design, implement, secure, and maintain core IT infrastructure, servers, storage, networks, virtualization platforms, and cloud services to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of critical systems while monitoring capacity, troubleshooting complex issues, and leading root‑cause analysis.

About the Team : The IT department comprises a small team of skilled professionals who manage daily operational responsibilities alongside project initiatives. Our objective is to deliver efficient, customer‑centric service with professionalism and courtesy. We operate collaboratively, providing support to staff at both the national office and remote locations, with minimal travel required. As a lean team, we emphasize agility and adaptability while maintaining the highest standards of quality.

Duties & Responsibilities Infrastructure Architecture, Engineering & Operations

Design, implement, configure, secure, and maintain core IT infrastructure including servers, storage, networks, virtualization platforms, desktop/application virtualization, and cloud services following industry best practices.

Ensure high availability, optimal performance, and reliability of critical systems by monitoring capacity, resolving complex technical issues, and leading detailed root‑cause analysis.

Lead planning and execution of hardware refresh cycles, on‑premise software upgrades, and cloud migration initiatives.

Review and recommend system upgrades, apply maintenance activities, security patches, and lifecycle updates to keep the technology environment current and protected from vulnerabilities.

Server, Directory & Identity Management

Administer Microsoft Active Directory, Domain Controllers, Group Policies, and Windows/Linux server environments.

Manage Azure AD/Entra ID identity services, including MFA, Conditional Access, DLP, retention, eDiscovery, auditing, and security baselines to support a Zero Trust security model.

Microsoft 365, Messaging & Collaboration Platforms

Oversee the design, deployment, optimization, and lifecycle management of Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Microsoft Intune, and related hybrid or cloud‑based services.

Manage Exchange hybrid configurations, mail flow, EOP policies, anti‑spam/anti‑phishing protection, transport rules, and the mailbox lifecycle to ensure secure, dependable communications across the organization.

Establish and enforce governance standards for SharePoint sites, Teams creation and structure, external sharing, permissions hygiene, data classification, and information lifecycle management.

Backup, Disaster Recovery & Systems Health

Oversee disaster recovery planning and backup strategies, ensuring continuous monitoring of all core systems, backup operations, service health, and security posture across the infrastructure.

Automation, Modernization & Continuous Improvement

Lead automation and modernization initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, standardization, and reliability across IT services.

Proactively contribute to documentation and develop standard operating procedures, system administration guidelines, automation scripts, and process improvements supporting organizational and technology roadmaps.

Partner with stakeholders on business critical initiatives and support long‑term infrastructure and cloud strategy development.

Leadership, Collaboration & Technical Expertise

Serve as a SME for Microsoft 365 and core infrastructure platforms, providing leadership for escalations and ensuring timely and effective resolution of advanced technical issues.

Mentor junior administrators, promote knowledge sharing, and collaborate closely with IT teams, customers, and cross‑functional stakeholders to deliver high‑quality service and support end‑to‑end enterprise projects.

Qualifications Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or equivalent experience

Experience

7+ years of progressive experience in Systems and Infrastructure Administration, including a minimum of 3 years in a senior or lead role.

Extensive, hands‑on experience administering Microsoft Active Directory, Domain Controllers, Group Policies, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Intune, and Windows/Linux server environments.

Demonstrated expertise with VMware virtualization technologies and Veeam backup and recovery solutions.

Experience with automation and infrastructure provisioning tools to streamline deployment and configuration processes.

Practical experience working with Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco switching environments, Web Application Firewalls, and load balancing technologies.

Proficiency in monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning using platforms such as Datadog, Nagios, or Zabbix.

Strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, or Bash to support enterprise automation and operational efficiency.

Proven ability to manage relationships with third‑party vendors, service providers, and technology partners.

Hands‑on experience deploying and managing Dell VxRail infrastructure and using Dell Wyse Management Suite (WMS) for centralized thin‑client management.

Extensive experience supporting, maintaining, and optimizing Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops to ensure secure and high performance virtual application and desktop delivery.

Experienced in provisioning and enforcing Network Access Policies (NAP) using Aruba ClearPass for secure authentication, endpoint compliance, and network access control across enterprise environments.

Skills

Expert‑level knowledge of virtualization technologies, including VMware vSphere, with the ability to design, operate, and optimize enterprise virtual environments.

Strong understanding of end‑to‑end IT systems architecture, including storage platforms, network topologies, and industry‑standard security practices.

Comprehensive knowledge of core infrastructure technologies, including networking, firewalls, load balancers, web application firewalls, SAN, DNS, and VPN solutions.

Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the capability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in high‑pressure, mission critical environments.

Excellent communication, organizational, and time‑management abilities, ensuring clear information sharing and efficient workflow planning.

Proven technical leadership and project management skills, with experience driving and documenting large‑scale infrastructure upgrades and migration initiatives.

Strong multitasking capability, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, prioritize effectively, and make sound, data‑driven decisions.

Adaptable and versatile, with a willingness to take on a broad range of responsibilities typical in a small, high‑performing IT team.

Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, internally and externally.
