Contribution
Reporting to the program Manager/Director, under the guidance of the Nutritionist, the Lay Counsellor provides support to women pre and post natal. As a team member the Lay Counsellor carries out services delivery plans as discussed in team meetings and as outlined in the nutritional assessment. The Lay Counsellor liaises with the nutritionist, other professionals in the community and refers to appropriate community resources. This position assists in the assessment, maintenance and counselling of participants who are in the program following the guidelines as outlined through Health Canada.
Qualifications
Para-professional training in counselling.
Food safe Certificate
Valid Driver’s License
Job skills and abilities

Responsibilities
Included but is not limited to the following:
A. Supervisory:
May supervise activities of volunteers in the absence of, or at the direction of the Manager.
B. Operational:
Counsel clients on prenatal, lifestyle, nutritional, post-natal and infant issues and concerns, refer to appropriate resources.
Complete required filing, ICQs and record keeping particular to the program.
Facilitate transportation of clients to drop‑in sessions.
Participate in case conferencing, team meetings and/or conference calls.
Make home visits.
Prepare materials for drop-ins and lunch club.
Assist participants with prenatal planning.
Distribute supplements according to guidelines.
Consult and confer with Nutritionist and other professionals on client status.
C. Advisory:
Submit reports to Managers/Directors as required.
Assist Manager/Director with reports and evaluations.
Other related duties as required.
Requirements
Criminal Record Review.
Signed confidentiality form.
Approved reference check.
