Position Overview Join Autodesk’s Platform Organization within the Product Design and Manufacturing Solutions division, contributing to the Fusion 360 family of products. As a Principal Engineer / Architect, you will provide technical leadership and architectural vision for cloud-native, scalable, and secure solutions, drive the design and evolution of complex systems, mentor engineers, and collaborate across teams and geographies to ensure technical excellence and alignment with Autodesk’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

Define and communicate architectural vision, standards, and best practices for cloud, backend, and frontend systems

Lead design and evolution of distributed, scalable, and secure platforms using AWS, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform)

Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, frameworks, and patterns to meet business and technical requirements

Guide teams in decomposing monolithic systems into modular, service‑oriented or microservices architectures

Ensure solutions are robust, maintainable, and aligned with Autodesk’s long‑term strategy

Partner with engineering, product management, UX, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions

Facilitate architectural reviews, design sessions, and technical deep dives across teams and locations

Influence and align multiple teams on architectural direction, technical standards, and delivery practices

Mentor and coach engineers at all levels, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning

Lead by example in code quality, design, and technical decision‑making

Champion knowledge sharing, documentation, and onboarding of new technologies and practices

Oversee implementation of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins), automated testing (Pact, Cypress, Playwright), and monitoring (Splunk, CloudWatch)

Advocate for and implement best practices in security, reliability, and operational excellence

Drive initiatives to improve system observability, performance, and resilience

Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, evaluating their applicability to Autodesk’s platform

Contribute to long‑term technical roadmaps and strategic planning

Represent Autodesk engineering in cross‑company forums, technical communities, and external engagements

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience

10+ years of professional software development experience, with significant experience in technical leadership or architectural roles

Deep expertise in cloud platforms (AWS), containerization, and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform)

Advanced proficiency in backend (Java/Spring Boot, C++) and frontend (React/Redux) development

Experience designing and evolving large‑scale, distributed systems and microservices architectures

Strong background in DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and observability (Jenkins, Pact, Cypress, Playwright, Splunk)

Excellent communication, collaboration, and influencing skills

Proven ability to mentor and lead technical teams

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with multi‑region, highly available cloud architectures

Track record of driving architectural transformation and modernization initiatives

AWS certification or equivalent cloud expertise

Experience with security, compliance, and privacy in cloud environments

Contributions to open source or technical communities

Experience working in a global, matrixed organization

Salary Transparency Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location. In addition to base salaries, our compensation package may include annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
