MDA Space is currently seeking a
Manufacturing Engineering Co‑op Student . The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Manufacturing Engineering department in a variety of tasks including but not limited to determining the most safe and efficient way to produce and test a product as well as supporting the activities regarding the new MDA Space building.
This is a 16 month term starting in May 2026.
Job Responsibilities:
Evaluate manufacturing methods/processes under the guidance of the Manufacturing Engineers regarding product:
Design,
Fabrication,
Assembly,
Tooling,
Materials;
Support improvement processes regarding company manufacturing efficiency by analyzing:
Work flow,
Space requirements,
Equipment layout.
Contribute to the product and process quality by setting up and assisting with the:
Execution of the designing testing methods and equipment;
Testing finished product and process capabilities;
Establishing standards;
Confirming manufacturing processes.
Participate in the product development meetings and assist with implementation of the specified recommendations for product design changes to enhance manufacturing and assembly
Support in standardization initiatives, such as:
Implementing 5S practice in the office and lab spaces
Streamlining processes through documentation and lean optimization
Developing quick‑win solutions to improve from current state into future state
Job Requirements / Education:
Interested candidates should be enrolled in their official co‑op program and have general manufacturing engineering skills typical of a second/third year Bachelors of Engineering student, or related field experience and a combination of:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with a strong emphasis on Excel
Knowledge or understanding of the:
MRP systems (i.e. LN, SAP, or any other)
Lean principles (VA/NVA, cycle times, lead times, VSM)
Design for Manufacture (DFM)
Design for Assembly (DFA) processes
Design Input and Design Output documentation for manufacturing line
Experience or knowledge of PowerBI, Excel VBA & SQL for visual dashboards and data analytics
Experience or knowledge of production and test layout design including ergonomics & safety
Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and a positive thinker
Strong planning capabilities, problem solving, and organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work under time constraints
Strong ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as a member of a team
Special Considerations:
Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.
