Job Description
As the Storage and Data Protection Specialist within our Platform Engineering team, you will be the technical authority for our enterprise storage ecosystem. Your mission is to ensure that our data is highly available, performant, and—above all—recoverable.
While we are moving toward modern platform standards (including Container Storage), your primary focus will be the architecture, management, and optimization of our NetApp and Pure Storage environments. You will bridge the gap between traditional high-performance hardware and modern automated infrastructure.
Key Accountabilities
Storage Architecture:
Design and maintain high-performance storage solutions (Block, File, and Object) using NetApp and Pure Storage.
Data Resiliency:
Define and execute robust data protection strategies, including immutable backups, disaster recovery (DR) orchestration, and business continuity planning.
Infrastructure Operations:
Manage storage protocols (iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NVMe, NFS) and perform capacity planning to stay ahead of business growth.
Automation:
Utilize scripting (Python/Bash) or IaC (Ansible/Terraform) to automate routine provisioning and monitoring tasks.
Performance Tuning:
Proactively monitor and troubleshoot latency or throughput issues across the storage fabric.
Modernization (The Growth Path):
Support the integration of storage with our container platforms via CSI drivers as our environment evolves.
Must-Have Qualifications
The Hardware Expert:
Deep, hands‑on experience managing and troubleshooting
NetApp (ONTAP)
and
Pure Storage (FlashArray) .
Protocol Mastery:
Advanced knowledge of storage networking, including
Fibre Channel (zoning/fabric) ,
iSCSI , and
NFS/SMB .
Backup Specialist:
Proven experience with enterprise‑grade backup tools (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, Cohesity) and designing recovery workflows.
OS Fundamentals:
Solid understanding of how Linux (LVM, file systems) and Windows hosts interact with enterprise storage.
Cloud Awareness:
Experience managing storage resources within at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Education:
University degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent "in the trenches" job experience.
Nice‑to‑Have (The "Bonus" Skills)
Experience with
Container Storage Interface (CSI)
drivers (e.g., NetApp Trident).
Familiarity with Kubernetes/OpenShift environments.
Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) experience using
Ansible
or
Terraform .
Knowledge of data lifecycle management and tiered storage strategies.
Salary Range: 100,000/year -110,000/year CAD
