Job Summary As the first university-based common law school in the nation, the Schulich School of Law offers a unique and enlightened approach to legal education. Diverse curriculum, leading specializations, and internationally recognized faculty provide exceptional opportunities in all facets of legal education. Reporting to the Associate Dean Academic ( ADA ), the Director, Student and Academic Affairs is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Office, acting as a Schulich Law representative on internal and external committees, and interpreting university and school policy within prescribed limits. The Manager supervises staff of the Office of the ADA to ensure efficient program and service delivery, while working to build capacity and foster individual and team development.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the day-to-day operations of the Office of the ADA , by facilitating program planning, the management of strategic initiatives and the adjudication of student/faculty/administration requests and inquiries.

Analyze current programming, policies, and procedures, develop recommendations, and facilitate implementation of improvements.

Develop, implement, and monitor a communications plan for students and faculty on matters of academic administration on behalf of the Office of the ADA .

Develop and implement initiatives and processes to enhance student access to advising and requests for academic conisderation.

Provide advising to JD students for matters involving curriculum, degree requirements and personal matters.

Liaise with other departments and contribute to a collegial work environment.

Note The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant area of study, with a minimum of five years’ related experience in managing program delivery, advising / coaching, and staff supervision (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).

Demonstrated planning, organizing, project management, coaching and leadership skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to maintain composure and retain a positive and professional attitude under pressure and in difficult situations.

Superior written and verbal communication skills.

Understanding of issues, challenges and opportunities relating to the equity, diversity and inclusion of law school students from underrepresented groups is vital to this role.

Experience in a student-facing role, with knowledge of university program structure, policies and procedures, and knowledge of computerized student information systems and MS Office suite.

Assets

Graduate degree in a relevant area of study (Business Administration, Public Administration, Education).

Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Knowledge of Canadian law schools and the Canadian legal profession.
