Geotechnical Engineer, MSE

– Edmonton, AB or Surrey, BC

The Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for assessing the feasibility of geosynthetic solutions from a technical, economical, and environmental perspective to drive product sales in each application. The role works closely with the Sales Team to provide timely designs, drawings, estimates, tools, and feasibility assessments to close successfully on product sales.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for preliminary design for various MSE wall systems in alignment with final design being completed externally.

Consult with clients, engineers, contractors and material suppliers to discuss and formulate estimates, seek cost reductions and resolve issues.

Responsible for takeoffs and estimate proposals for all Terrafix products as required.

Review project drawings provided by the various regions and determine optimal geosynthetic solutions.

Provide AutoCAD® details as necessary to support the sales team’s communication of Terrafix’s product value propositions to clients.

Be fluent in main design software packages including, but not limited to, MSEW® and ReSSA® in order to provide timely technical assessments. Other relevent software programs include SLOPE/W, SLIDE, and BlueBeam.

Provide research on new technologies, environmental impact assessments, and application tools.

Maintain relationships with manufacturer’s key technical personnel for additional support.

Create an estimating cost data base for various applications.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Office based position with some travel required to visit job sites.

Work hours will typically be regular hours (8-5) with occasional longer hours as the projects dictate.

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering. Experience in civil/ environmental design concepts & geosynthetic applications and construction practices.

Professional Engineer, C.E.T. or PMP an asset

3-5 years minimum experience in civil or geotechnical engineering

Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, field drawings, plans and documents.

Direct work experience in the geosynthetic industry and/or Retained Wall Systems.
