The bigger picture
We’re looking for an intelligent and savvy tax professional to come on board to lead the tax compliance and planning functions for Conexus Credit Union and its subsidiaries. The Director, Tax ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all tax‑related activities, while optimizing Conexus’ overall tax position and maintaining a low tax‑risk profile. In this role you will work with like‑minded people in a highly cooperative team environment driven to produce results.
Conexus is one of the largest credit unions in Canada with approximately $17 billion under management, 1400 employees and 10 CPAs in the controllership/accounting area (effective January 1, 2026). Conexus has 9 subsidiaries including wealth management, venture capital and holdco’s.
How you’ll be spending your time
Leading the preparation and oversight of corporate income tax (T2) returns for all entities including reviewing supporting documentation prepared by the accounting team to ensure accuracy and completeness
Completing T5 filings and supporting external tax service providers on preparing SRED claims and other specialized filings, as required.
Engaging and collaborating with external tax service providers for independent review tax returns and other specialized tax filings
Overseeing GST and PST compliance requirements for all entities
Researching, analyzing, and applying tax legislation to ensure compliance
Planning, leading, and implementing corporate tax, GST, and PST strategies
Managing tax risks and implementing controls and mitigation strategies
Coordinating and leading all tax audits and examinations
Determining and recording tax provisions for all entities in accordance with IFRS
Preparing and reviewing tax disclosures for consolidated financial statements
Providing senior‑level financial and tax analysis to support strategic initiatives
Training and mentoring staff, fostering technical expertise and collaboration

The experience you bring
Degree in Business Administration with an Accounting or Finance focus
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
Completion of the In‑Depth Tax Program (IDTP)
Minimum of seven years’ experience in a tax environment with increasing complexity
Deep understanding of corporate tax, GST, and PST, with ability to apply tax law
Demonstrated ability to lead tax functions while fostering strong knowledge‑sharing practices among experienced professionals
Salary range:
$118,520 - $169,520 with 19% short‑term incentive target

This is a permanent full‑time position; however, for the right candidate, Conexus would consider an 80% time or full‑time during peak periods with reduced hours during non‑peak periods.
