Job Description

HOURS 37.5 hours per week. Shifts are Monday‑Friday (9:00 am to 5:00 pm) with one late shift (11:00 am to 7:00 pm) per week on a set schedule. Some flexibility in work hours may be required.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT The successful candidate will extend our mission to residential and non‑residential clients through the provision of respectful and appropriate housing support services. This may include case management, crisis intervention and supportive counselling. The incumbent must be able to work independently in a challenging and rewarding values‑based environment.

Housing‑focused short‑term case management, eviction prevention, supportive counselling, education, and advocacy

Provide eviction prevention services to youth, women and families who are at imminent risk of homelessness and/or need intensive short‑term support to stabilise and maintain housing

Provide advocacy and education regarding the Residential Tenancies Act and the rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords

Provide targeted supports in an effort to increase housing stability and prevent future housing loss

Must be willing to assist in a hands‑on capacity with the creation and implementation of client‑centered housing plans

Answer phones, determine program eligibility, conduct assessments and program intakes. Work is done in the office and within the community during home visits, accompaniment to appointments, attending Landlord and Tenant Board hearings, and meeting with other community agencies

Must be comfortable with client advocacy and navigating systems

To observe all Good Shepherd health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimise risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd Non‑Profit Homes.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO OUR TEAM

Post‑secondary education in Social Service or a related field is required

Minimum 1‑year related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in Social Services or a related field

Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the housing system in the City of Hamilton, the Residential Tenancies Act, and the Ontario Human Rights Code required

Willingness to offer clients support at Landlord and Tenant Board hearings

Have strong knowledge of and experience working with a range of issues impacting youth, women and families including homelessness, violence against women and children, poverty, mental illness and substance use

Commitment to and experience working within a person‑centered, trauma‑informed, harm reduction and housing first framework

Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, verbal and written communication, time management and organisation, and ability to prioritise workload

Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team

CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required

Valid G licence required

Fluency in a 2nd language is an asset
