Job Description
Our machine building client in Toronto, ON is seeking a highly skilled
Senior Electrical Design Engineer
to lead the design, detailing, testing, commissioning, and customer support phases of custom automated equipment projects. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, on-time electrical designs that meet customer specifications and production schedules.
What You’ll Do
Design and detail
electrical control systems
using
AutoCAD Electrical and EPlan
Develop and modify electrical drawings based on past projects and new customer requirements
Generate accurate
Bills of Materials (BOMs)
and source appropriate electrical components
Program and troubleshoot
PLC & HMI systems
(multi-platform)
Design and integrate
motion control systems (servos, VFDs), safety
Commission and install automated equipment at customer sites
Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues during testing and warranty support
Manage engineering documentation, testing records, calculations, and project files
Process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) within required timelines
Support Master Production Schedule milestones and meet project budget timelines
Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical engineering, electrical shop, and production teams
Mentor junior team members and uphold ISO and safety standards
What You Bring
Engineering degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering/Technology (controls focus)
5+ years of electrical controls design experience with project ownership
Strong PLC & HMI programming experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens STEP 7, or CODESYS)
Experience designing
servo and VFD-based motion control systems
Proficiency in
AutoCAD Electrical
Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and equipment integration skills
Ability to interpret electrical schematics and perform field measurements (multimeter, oscilloscope)
Strong time management and project execution capabilities
P.Eng designation considered an asset
