Responsible for coordinating the capital planning and implementation of capital projects.

Coordinate contractor activities to ensure safety and costs are controlled and deadlines met while adhering to NSG standards.

Ensure all EHS standards relating to equipment are met for new equipment.

Manages the technical support services required to maintain or upgrade the physical plant, production equipment, engineering processes and methods to facilitate production.

Oversee the technical health of the entire facility as it relates to plant maintenance and engineering by working side by side with other department managers and RCM engineer including critically analyzing the equipment/process needs and reviewing the maintenance strategy to improve site’s performance.

Directs capital type projects from feasibility studies through design and ultimate implementation. These projects are evaluated by analyzing the available technology and equipment, determining the investment cost and need for the equipment. The incumbent must stay abreast of the newest developments in the state-of-the-art technologies.

Determines equipment and facility needs through working with other managers and group engineering technical staff. Work with outside contractors, utilizing the competitive bidding process to secure equipment and/or services for projects when necessary. Projects are monitored from inception to conclusion. Work with group engineering or outside engineering services to direct or assist with larger projects.

Must possess the ability to supervise skilled workers and have wide experience in plant operations. Should have excellent troubleshooting ability, technical knowledge of production equipment, mechanical and electrical equipment, computer operations, and ability to motivate maintenance personnel under pressure. Should be able to coordinate several projects simultaneously and should be able to generate ideas that can lead to reduction of cost and improvement of work processes. This position requires excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.

Implements measures designed to provide safe working conditions for plant personnel. This is done through working with the other department managers.

Selects, develops, trains, motivates, appraises and compensates subordinate personnel to provide for a competent work force.

Establish and maintain inventory controls and targets for inventory levels in the storeroom area.

Other managerial duties as assigned.

The manager will:

Report to the Plant Manager.

Maintain positive working relationships with other departments and site team members.

Maintain positive working relationships with all corporate functions (planning, finance, safety, quality, engineering, R&D, ME, etc.).

The incumbent has the organizational freedom to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformity relating to product, process, and/or the quality system, identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and the quality system. This includes the authority to adjust throughput achieve consistent production performance. Also has the authority to initiate, direct, and implement 5s activities in the Maintenance & Engineering Department. This may include controlling further processing, delivery or installation of nonconforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.

Responsible for maintaining an effective quality system that is current, used, understood and maintained in the facility according to Quality Program documents. To continually improve the products, processes, and services. Ensure customer satisfaction per the site Quality Policy.

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

5+ years of experience in the Engineering and Maintenance field

Supervisory and leadership experience in a continuous manufacturing setting

3 to 5 years of experience supervising hourly, salary and contractor personnel

Solid interpersonal, coaching and communication skills

Ability to facilitate groups in an employee involvement environment

Strong ERP skills – SAP specifically

Qualifications Desired:

One to three years glass manufacturing experience

Must be able to multi-task and work well under pressure.

Six Sigma or other Lean Manufacturing Certification – Greenbelt or above

Experience with Pollution Control Plants

Other Requirements:

Frequently works around moving machines, chemicals, and high temperature in an industrial environment.

Occasionally must travel by commercial means or private transport.

Involves prolonged periods of standing and walking, often exceeding 8 hours per day.

Must be able to climb stairs, crouch, kneel, and maintain balance in various working environments.

Requires the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds, occasionally over 20 pounds.
