Your Opportunity Reporting directly to the Vice President, Marketing, Communications & Public Relations, the Director, Employee Communications, is a strategic partner to the company’s senior leaders, shaping how Stantec’s story, strategy, and priorities come to life for employees around the world. This role serves as a trusted advisor to the C‑Suite, Functional Services Teams (FSTs), and business leadership—translating enterprise and business strategy into compelling, relevant, and engaging communications that inform, inspire, and mobilize our people.

Role & Responsibilities:

Build and foster comprehensive company-wide communications programs that help employees understand the goals, strategy, programs, processes, and vision of executive leadership

Develop recommendations to evolve Stantec’s employee and leadership communication platforms to reflect shifting demographics and communication preferences, with the “employee experience” in mind

Collaborate with leaders and MCPR colleagues to solve communications challenges, take advantage of communications opportunities, and strengthen the effectiveness of communications across our business (global, regional, business operating unit)

Establish clear governance, standards, and editorial discipline for employee communications to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment across global, regional, and business unit communications

Lead, empower, engage, and develop a talented global team of highly skilled communications professionals to deliver inspiring, high quality, effective communications in all formats, e.g., video, email, intranet articles, visuals, etc.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with key partners across Stantec’s Functional Services Teams, including HR, IT, Finance, Health & Safety, Risk Management, etc.

Champion and put into place best practices in leadership and employee communications to maximize the effectiveness of Stantec’s communications in support of business priorities. This includes leader‑led communications frameworks, toolkits, and coaching to help executives and people leaders communicate with authenticity, consistency, and impact

Manage an ongoing communications calendar

Seek out and remain aware of major Company successes and issues, providing executive communications counsel and support to senior leaders to promote frequent, transparent communications

Works in close partnership with Public Relations on crisis communications

Development of an operational communications strategy for our lines of business and regions around the world

Responsibility for our employee communications platforms including an email tool, intranet, etc.

Serve as a core communications partner for enterprise‑wide change initiatives—including organizational change, transformation programs, M&A integration, and major operating model shifts—driving clarity, consistency, and employee confidence

Ensure employee communications are inclusive, culturally relevant, and locally resonant—balancing enterprise alignment with regional, cultural, and business specific needs across a global workforce

Leverage data, analytics, and employee listening mechanisms (e.g., engagement insights, feedback loops, sentiment analysis) to continuously refine communications strategies and improve effectiveness

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Results‑oriented strategic thinker with strong business acumen, exceptional judgment, excellent problem‑solving skills

Demonstrated experience and success in translating business strategies, plans, and issues into effective and inspiring employee and leadership communications programs

Proven experience transforming traditional communications tactics to fit with shifting media habits (e.g., digital, social, and mobile)

Exceptional communicator with outstanding oral and written skills; an excellent storyteller who can build and deliver messaging across a diverse set of audiences

“Hands‑on” team player who builds strong relationships

Effective collaboration skills using influence and inspiration to achieve desired results

Proven experience leading high‑performance teams, with an emphasis on employee development through effective coaching and mentorship

Demonstrated experience with crisis communications

Strong organizational, project management, and time management capabilities with the ability to juggle multiple priorities

Self‑starter who is nimble, flexible, and comfortable working in an environment where priorities can change quickly

Proven track record in successfully leading execution of business change management

Skilled in working with employee communications apps and platforms (e.g., PowerPoint, Intranets, email tools, collaboration tools, social listening, video, photography, etc.)

Education and Experience

University degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field

Minimum 15+ years of progressive communications experience in a large organization with global reach.

Pay Range: • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$133,600.00 - $207,000.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
