We’re bridging two worlds, moving towards more sustainable energy sources, while helping to provide the energy, chemicals and resources needed now.

Purpose We are seeking a Specialist Mechanical Engineer – Heat Transfer Equipment to serve as the organization’s highest-level technical authority for heat transfer and thermal equipment across complex greenfield and brownfield projects. This role is recognized as an elite subject matter expert within the Mechanical discipline, providing deep technical leadership, governance, and assurance for heat exchanger and thermal system design, execution, and lifecycle performance.

The Specialist Mechanical Engineer – Heat Transfer Equipment provides expert oversight and technical governance for critical and high-risk heat transfer equipment scopes, including shell-and-tube heat exchangers, air coolers, plate heat exchangers, reboilers, condensers, and fired heater interfaces. This role is accountable for setting technical direction, resolving the most complex engineering challenges, approving deviations from standards, and driving continuous improvement in discipline practices, tools, and standards.

Operating with a high degree of autonomy and influence, the Specialist supports major capital projects, strategic pursuits, complex brownfield modifications, and operational reliability initiatives. This individual is a trusted technical advisor to discipline leadership, project leadership, clients, and executive stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Act as the highest-level technical authority for heat transfer equipment within the Mechanical discipline, providing expert governance, assurance, and decision-making on complex and high-risk scopes.

Provide authoritative technical leadership on the selection, design, specification, procurement, fabrication, inspection, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of heat transfer equipment.

Serve as the escalation point for the most complex thermal, mechanical, and operability challenges, including fouling, vibration, thermal stress, corrosion, reliability issues, and underperforming equipment.

Lead and approve complex technical decisions, waivers, and deviations from discipline standards, codes, and specifications related to heat transfer equipment.

Provide expert review and approval of critical deliverables including specifications, datasheets, thermal designs, vendor packages, bid evaluations, and technical queries.

Act as the primary technical interface with OEMs, licensors, and specialist vendors on complex equipment design, proprietary technologies, performance guarantees, and novel applications.

Support Mechanical Leads, Project Engineering Managers, and Discipline Leadership in developing execution strategies, risk mitigation plans, and technical approaches for major heat transfer equipment scopes.

Provide expert input into constructability reviews, 3D model reviews, HAZOPs, operability studies, RAM studies, and site technical risk assessments.

Participate in factory acceptance testing (FATs), shop inspections, and site troubleshooting for critical or high-risk heat transfer equipment packages.

Drive continuous improvement of discipline standards, specifications, design guides, templates, and technical governance frameworks related to heat exchangers and thermal systems.

Provide mentorship, technical coaching, and capability development for Principals, Seniors, and Leads, helping to build long-term organizational competency in heat transfer equipment engineering.

Support workshare execution models and provide technical assurance for global delivery centers, ensuring consistency, quality, and adherence to technical standards.

Contribute to technical assurance in proposals, pursuits, and business development activities, including technical risk reviews, value engineering initiatives, and client-facing technical leadership.

Act as a recognized internal and external expert in heat transfer equipment, supporting client engagements, audits, peer reviews, and independent technical assessments.
