Job Description

The Manitoba Environmental Industries Association (MEIA) is Manitoba’s leading association for environmental professionals, industry leaders, and sustainability advocates. MEIA has been working to advance Manitoba’s environmental and clean technology sector for over 30 years.

In addition to serving its member association, MEIA is the province’s Natural Resources, Energy & Environment (NRE&E) Sector Council, delivering workforce development programming that supports a skilled, adaptable, and competitive workforce across Manitoba’s environmental and clean technology sectors.

Role Summary Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President & CEO provides strategic leadership and operational oversight across both mandates.

The ideal candidate brings senior credibility, policy acumen, and the ability to convene industry, government (including ministerial level), Indigenous organizations, and academic partners to advance Manitoba’s green economy.

Key Responsibilities

Advise the Board and lead development and execution of annual strategic and operational plans.

Monitor sector trends and issues; provide timely advice and recommendations to the Board.

Represent MEIA as spokesperson and relationship steward across member, industry, and public forums.

Lead, coach, and develop MEIA’s multidisciplinary team, fostering accountability and performance.

Operations & Program Delivery

Translate MEIA’s strategic plan into measurable operational goals and program outcomes.

Implement, annually review, and update the NRE&E Sector Council workforce development plan.

Oversee reporting under funding agreements and ensure policy and procedure compliance.

Ensure high-quality development and delivery of programs, services, training, and events for members and partners.

Identify industry needs; develop proposals; secure partners; and lead new program design.

Advocacy, Government & Policy

Lead MEIA’s advocacy agenda with provincial and federal partners on priority environmental and resource issues.

Support regulatory advancement and provide evidence-based input to policy development.

Build coalitions with industry, municipalities, and Indigenous organizations to inform pragmatic solutions.

Financial & Risk Management

Prepare annual budgets with Board committees; steward multi-source revenue (grants, memberships, sponsorships).

Maintain strong financial controls, cash flow oversight, and transparent reporting to the Board.

Ensure legislative compliance, risk management, and appropriate insurance coverage.

Community, Membership & Events

Grow and engage membership through value-added programming and clear member communications.

Provide executive leadership across flagship events and initiatives, including the MEIA AGM & Technical Seminar, the MEIA Cleantech Conference, Green Dragon’s Lair Pitch Competition, and the Scholarship Fundraiser Golf Tournament.

Champion professional development and student programming; strengthen partnerships with universities and colleges.

MEIA maintains a Funding Opportunities Hub to connect organizations with grants and programs supporting business growth, innovation, sustainability projects, and workforce development.

Qualifications

Degree in management or a related field, or equivalent experience.

5+ years of senior leadership experience in the environmental sector (association or not-for-profit experience an asset).

Strong understanding of Manitoba’s environmental policy, regulatory landscape, Provincial economic drivers, and public policy experience is an asset.

Demonstrated success in strategy, stakeholder engagement, and partnership development (government, Indigenous, academic, and industry).

Excellent communication, negotiation, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills, demonstrated through a collaborative and inclusive leadership approach.

Proven financial literacy, including budgeting and multi‑funder reporting.

High level of organization with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Proven capacity to identify, develop, and execute new initiatives with an entrepreneurial approach.

Proficiency with common productivity tools.

Working Conditions & Travel Full‑time salaried position; attendance at events outside regular business hours and occasional travel within Manitoba and out‑of‑province travel are required.

A valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle are required.
