Job Description
TRIUMF Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Discover TRIUMF, Canada's particle accelerator centre. We are a publicly funded, not-for-profit research laboratory that is a hub for discovery and innovation. Our mission is to serve as Canada’s particle accelerator centre, advancing isotope science and technology—both fundamental and applied—by collaborating across communities and disciplines from nuclear and particle physics to the life and material sciences. We discover and innovate, inspire and educate, creating knowledge and opportunity for all.
TRIUMF’s diverse community of nearly 600 multidisciplinary researchers, engineers, technicians, tradespeople, staff, and students creates a unique incubator for Canadian excellence and a portal to premier global collaborations. Fueling innovation and improving lives, we are committed to accelerating discovery and shaping a better world.
Position Summary
The Machine Learning and Quantum Information Systems Specialist will play a key role in advancing TRIUMF’s research programs by applying cutting‑edge methods and technologies in Machine Learning (ML) and Quantum Information (QI). The specialist will collaborate closely with research groups to identify opportunities where ML and QI enhance scientific output, co‑supervise students and postdoctoral researchers, and guide the development and adaptation of innovative methodologies to achieve research objectives.
The specialist will also collaborate with the Canadian ATLAS Tier‑1 Centre team and lead the software framework development, integration, and optimization of accelerator‑based applications for the High‑Luminosity Large Hadron Collider’s challenging computing environment. Development activities are crucial to ensure advanced compute accelerator technologies based on GPUs, FPGAs, and/or quantum computing are effectively deployed and utilized in a heterogeneous high‑performance computing environment.
Beyond project leadership, the incumbent will share expertise through presentations, workshops, and training initiatives within TRIUMF and with national and international collaborators, support internships, capstone projects, and summer schools, and help foster strategic partnerships with Canadian academia and industry to strengthen TRIUMF’s ML and QI initiatives and broaden their impact.
