In the role of Traffic Engineer, we'll count on you to:

Responsibilities

Perform complex traffic engineering projects, exercise sound engineering judgment, preparation of traffic signal plans, traffic impact analysis reports and PS and E documents

Make decisions on design and engineering procedures as needed

Function as technical specialist or project manager on mid-size projects, but project management is not sole focus of this position

Supervise small staff of professionals and technicians as needed

Perform other duties as needed

Job Skills

A self-starter, comfortable working in a team environment

Fluency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint)

Programming skills in languages such as Python and R, or experience with Microsoft Azure is an asset

Working knowledge in AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and/or analytic tools such as Tableau/Power BI is an asset

Progressive and innovative approach to problem-solving an asset

Knowledge of geometric roadway design, traffic engineering, travel demand modeling, transit service planning, active transportation an asset

Knowledge and application of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Process (MCEA), Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP), TAC Manual, MTO Geometrics Design Manual

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of 4 years’ experience with the P.Eng. designation in transportation engineering including traffic operations studies, traffic signals, transit priority, meso/microsimulation modelling, highway and transit infrastructure projects, master and secondary plans, environmental assessments, traffic impact studies, traffic safety, pedestrian and cycling studies, and traffic management plans.

Experience with projects involving pedestrian simulation modelling for transit stations and other public facilities is an advantage.

Experience with projects involving LRT, BRT, or subway / heavy rail is an asset.

Familiarity with planning policies and guiding documents in the Greater Toronto Area is an asset

Experience working on MTO, Metrolinx, TTC, York Region, Peel Region, Durham Region, or City of Toronto projects preferred.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

Experience with traffic analysis and traffic engineering/design

Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.

Detailed hands on experience conducting traffic design using CAD platforms including MicroStation, Autocad and Guide Sign software

Detailed hands on experience conducting operational analysis using a variety of analysis and modeling tools specific to support job duties, including HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, and Aimsun

Detailed hands on experience conducting safety analysis using a variety of safety software tools including Highway Safety Software

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word

Strong verbal and written skills

Temporary and part‑time roles eligible for limited benefits.) The pay range for Toronto/Richmond Hill: $86,000 - $123,400
