Vice President - GIB (Power, Utilities and Infrastructure)

What is the opportunity?
RBC Capital Markets Global Investment Banking is seeking a Vice President to join the Power, Utilities and Infrastructure team in Toronto. This position is a unique opportunity to broaden your financial skillset and gain exposure to an evolving industry. This role is intended for individuals who wish to build a long-term career in Investment Banking with a market‑leading franchise and global platform.
What will you do?
Evaluate and analyze the financial needs of clients, including building new and manipulating existing financial models
Lead M&A and financing transaction structuring and execution, including coordinating due diligence, preparing and reviewing analysis and presenting recommendations to clients and colleagues
Assist in generating pitch ideas, conducting market and financial research and leading development of analysis and presentations
Closely monitor regulatory and sector themes to identify potential changes to our clients’ businesses
Provide secondary coverage for key power, utility, and infrastructure fund clients
Evaluate capital structure alternatives and provide recommendations based on underlying business characteristics
Attend and participate in in‑person meetings with clients and prospective clients, site visits, and diligence and drafting sessions
Train, mentor, and supervise analysts and associates on day‑to‑day deliverables
Collaborate with colleagues across corporate and investment banking coverage and product groups to deliver holistic financing solutions
What do you need to succeed?
5-7 years of experience in investment banking, leveraged finance, private equity, equity research, corporate development, or accounting
University degree, preferably with a focus on Finance, Accounting or Engineering
A desire to learn and a team‑oriented mindset
A clearly defined interest in investment banking and financial markets, and strong knowledge of market structure and themes
Strong computer skills, including high proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Quantitative, analytical, and financial modeling skills
Adept written and verbal communication, data visualization and problem‑solving skills
Ability to work well under pressure with multiple deadlines while maintaining careful attention to detail
Flexibility in schedule to meet client deadlines
Leadership skillset and desire to make meaningful contributions in a fast‑paced, team environment
Prior work experience in or covering the power or utility sector, understanding of key power and utility industry concepts (e.g. revenue and cost frameworks, capital structure), CFA, CPA, P.Eng or other relevant professional designations are considered an asset but not a requirement
