Role Overview
We are currently seeking an innovative and results‑oriented individual to join our Trading & Origination Finance team! The Trading & Origination Finance group manages our financial results for the Trading & Origination activities of the company. We are responsible for all aspects of Trading & Origination Finance from settlements to complex accounting transactions, and monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting of trading results. We also assist in budget & forecast cycles across the organization and consolidate forward‑looking financial information for consideration of our executive and board.
Reporting to the Lead, Trading Finance, as the Accounting Specialist – Trading Financial Planning & Analysis, you will work with internal stakeholders to provide insights into the financial and operational trends for our commodity trading desks. You will have proficient financial knowledge in all our trading activities, which include power, gas & environmental products, trading as well as the optimization of our power generation assets. You’ll also assist with the presentation of consolidated financial results and external disclosures.
This is an exciting role involving a combination of financial analysis, reporting of results, forecasting, and an array of ad‑hoc analyses, all of which drive results for some of our largest business areas.
What you will contribute to our team
Analyzing and reporting on monthly, quarterly, and annual results variances for our trading activities with a focus on key drivers and trends.
Analyze financial results to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Prepare financial statements, management reports, and financial reporting packages that relate to our trading activities.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and settlement teams to ensure accurate reporting.
Assisting in the development of the long‑term plan, annual budget, and quarterly forecast processes for our trading activities, in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
Managing the process, timelines, expectations, and flow of information between the Reporting team, our trading teams, and other finance groups.
Building & maintaining strong collaborative relationships with various internal stakeholders to understand, interpret, and develop business analysis.
Contribute to process improvements, automation, and system enhancements to drive efficiencies.
Support integration of new business ventures and contracts into finance systems.
Ensuring process documentation is up to date and accurate.
Adhering to internal control requirements and ensuring internal controls are operating effectively.
What you will bring to the role
Education
Post‑secondary degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
Experience
5+ years of progressive accounting and financial analysis experience.
Prior experience in the power generation business and commodities trading.
Technical Skills
Strong problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), including the ability to work effectively with non‑financial individuals.
Ability to foster positive internal stakeholder relationships.
Experience with any of the following would be considered a strong asset:
Oracle or another enterprise‑grade ERP, including Oracle Hyperion.
Commodity trading systems.
Microsoft Power BI.
