Job Description GHD's Rail and Transit practice, we are seeking a Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance Director to join our growing team. This position will be integral to support the continuing development and growth of GHD's Rail and Transit business.

Responsibilities

Promote the adoption of Systems Engineering Principles in project initiation

Manage System Assurance activities on multidisciplinary transport engineering projects (Road/Rail etc.)

Provide advice and guidance to transportation projects through all lifecycle phases from concept development and planning through detailed design and construction phase support

Contribute to the Safety justification of transportation projects through activities such as Multi‑Criteria assessments as part of the cost‑benefit analysis for transport systems

Provide advice and guidance to GHD project teams on how to implement a Systems Engineering approach for its transportation projects

Promote the adoption of Systems Engineering tools and techniques

Manage System Safety engineering and assurance activities for GHD transport projects including Requirements Management

Create the Requirement Verification and Traceability Matrix; manage the evolution over the life of the project

Lead design teams through the Safety Hazard Analysis and management process

Facilitate qualitative and quantitative safety risk assessments

Mentor less‑experienced engineers, graduates and interns

Recommendation: Provide integrated, long‑term solutions and strategies for a significant area of responsibility, such as a function

Needs assessment: Engage with senior business leaders to understand long‑term strategic challenges

Solutions analysis: Develop strategic solutions to long‑term business needs by anticipating complex issues, challenges and opportunities

Improvement/innovation: Initiate, formulate and implement new business practices within a specific discipline while managing the development and/or delivery of a significant element of the organization’s change‑management program

Knowledge management system: Take responsibility for developing and delivering a key element of the organization’s knowledge management system

Business requirements identification: Elicit the most complex business requirements using a variety of methods – interviews, document analysis, workshops and workflow analysis – to express the requirements in terms of target user roles and goals

Feasibility studies: Conduct complex feasibility studies from a technological and organizational perspective and document findings to complete cost‑benefit analysis on implementing changes to business processes, products and business unit structure

Contract management: Manage the delivery of a major part of the organization’s contract management program while taking personal responsibility for a limited number of mission‑critical contracts

Policy development and implementation: Develop functional or operational policies and help develop policy frameworks for area of responsibility or department. Take responsibility for creating underlying procedures and monitoring their implementation

Project management: Manage a portfolio of major projects in line with overall project management strategy

Client & customer management (external): Manage key client and customer relationships. Likely to involve using account teams to maintain customer satisfaction and loyalty

Education

Master's Degree or equivalent level an asset

Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline

Experience

General experience: Experience level enabling job holder to provide leadership to others regarding work‑related systems, processes and challenges (more than 15 years)

Managerial experience: Experience of supervising and directing people and other resources to achieve specific end results within limited timeframes (13 months to 3 years)

Knowledge and experience in transportation systems (particularly rail)

Knowledge of the System Engineering and Safety lifecycles

Knowledge and experience in the application of INCOSE SEBoK principles

Ability to apply safety analysis techniques such as HAZOP, FTA, ETA

Awareness of RAM and human factors

Knowledge of appropriate national and international standards such as:

EN 50126/8/9

IEC 61508

AS 4292

AS/NZS 45001

ISO/IEC 15288

Understanding and experience in application of Systems engineering tools such as:
