Join the Insurance and Claims Management Leadership Team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the City of Edmonton’s resilience through effective loss prevention & risk transfer measures. As the Manager, Insurance & Risk, you will work closely with the Director of Insurance and Claims Management, leveraging industry best practices to oversee the City’s comprehensive insurance program. This is a critical leadership position, focused on partnering with operational teams across the Corporation to develop and implement effective risk assessment and loss prevention strategies and actions. Your focus will be on ensuring effective and integrated services, strengthening the Corporation's ability to manage its diverse risks.
What will you do?
Build organizational capacity, foster a high-performing team and inclusive culture, develop training tools and resources for continuous growth
Actively support and execute business planning, performance management, and financial stewardship to ensure effective delivery of services and financial sustainability
Lead the City’s insurance program placement & renewals processes in collaboration with the internal and external insured participants including associated technical studies, research and strategies
Manage and develop insurance related policies and procedures to support strategic and operational risk practices across the Corporation
Provide advice on complex risk, insured claims, and contract inquiries
Develop and oversee quality control practices including service level requirements and key performance indicators and Communicate claims data and loss trends to the City’s departments and advise on proactive risk management
Liaise with regulatory bodies such as Superintendent of Insurance, Insurance Bureau of Canada to identify emerging trends and ensure compliance
Support procurement and management of external resources and contracts
Ensure the effectiveness of the Claims and Risk Management systems, including system investment recommendations, to meet business needs
Support creation and delivery of leadership reports, presentations and information sessions as required
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Law, Public Administration or a related disciplineFellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) or Fellow in Risk Management (FRM) is required
Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) and/or Risk Management Designation (CRM) may be considered in place of one or both Fellowships, depending on the depth and length of experience
Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in managing technical staff and managing risks in a large complex organization, including knowledge in risk assessment, insurance, claims, litigation, alternative dispute resolution and applicable laws and regulations
Assets:
Excellent experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Applications; PeopleSoft, SAP, and iVOS or other claims management systems
Skills required for success:
Strong organizational, project management, interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work within a complex, changing environment with competing priorities
Demonstrated ability to resolve issues, think critically and respond to concerns/complaints, maintain accurate records and statistics, and establish and maintain effective working relationships

Conditions of employment & work environment:
Up to: 1 permanent full-time position
Hours of work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Salary: $108,838.80 - $136,046.09 (Annually)
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite
This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off)
Management and Out-of-Scope positions at the City of Edmonton are being reviewed for possible inclusion in the Civic Service Union 52 bargaining unit. If this position is impacted, the incumbent will be notified accordingly
