Pattern Engineer – Advanced Innovation Description & Requirements At lululemon, we’re not just creating products—we’re shaping the future of elite athletic performance apparel, created to perform on the world stage. As the Advanced Innovation – Pattern Engineer, you have the ability to blend an artistic eye for design with a technical engineering mindset. You require strong visualization skills to translate between 2D and 3D, as well as the ability to solve problems in creative and innovative ways. You will be responsible for helping to shape groundbreaking performance apparel by turning sketches into patterns and subsequently into real apparel prototypes and ensuring our top athletes are enabled during the world’s most high‑profile moments in sport. You will support the delivery of transformative product that will exceed our athletes’ expectations using your technical expertise in pattern engineering and advanced apparel construction to deliver incomparable performance products following the design intent.

Bringing visionary product ideas to life, you’ll seamlessly integrate new pattern engineering methods and construction techniques working closely with Design and Concept Creation to shape and develop apparel that meets the exact specifications of elite lululemon athletes. Your ability to manage multiple streams of work, lead with confidence in an ambiguous environment, and continuously push the boundaries of fit and construction will be essential. At the core of your role, you’ll drive and manage the pattern engineering of products through a unique timeline that shapes products that not only meet but exceed the expectations of the brand and our athletes.

A Day in the Life

Organize and prioritize daily workload of assigned product

Develop complete patterns & cutters must (legend) to achieve Design aesthetic, fit, and construction

Identify, adjust, and correct fit issues that require pattern corrections

Effectively communicate and advise technical team and cross‑functional partners on pattern construction

Collaborate cross‑functionally to monitor and maintain fit & construction to ensure brand consistency

Collaborate with factories as needed for accurate use of pattern development

Ability to cut and sew muslins for both live fitting and/or fitting on the form

Ability to fit on a live model

Participate in fittings as needed to support Technical Developers in maintaining consistent fit

Strong analytical thinking, written & verbal communication

Mentor Pattern Engineers & TD team as required

Qualifications

Patternmaking Degree

5–8 years industry experience in pattern making; performance or ‘close to body’ categories preferred (development through production experience preferred)

Understanding of fit, balance, garment construction, and fabric reaction

Strong technical knowledge of performance product and fit (materials/fabric, construction, and body movement)

Strong team player/collaborator, able to work cross‑functionally

Knowledge of product creation calendar timelines and able to work against deadlines

Proficiency in MS Office (Excel/Word/Outlook), Adobe Illustrator, PLM software, Gerber Pattern Making

3D software experience (CLO, Browzwear) is an asset

Experience with plus size market an asset

Traveled to and worked with manufacturers across Asia, Americas, and Europe

Must Haves

Driven by the technical aspect of the product creation process

Attention to detail, initiative, organization, strong verbal & written communication skills

Ability to manage multiple tasks & competing priorities

Comprehensive knowledge of fabric, construction, draping, graphic & dye techniques

Skilled at technical communication with vendors via pattern diagrams & fit photos

Expert knowledge of Pattern Grading

Comprehension of end to end product life cycle

Self‑motivated, strong sense of urgency, collaborative mindset

Ability to work and thrive in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional team environment

Excellent time management, organizational & problem‑solving skills

Curiosity for change & learning, capable of managing ambiguity

Participate in fit sessions for all products as required

Compensation And Benefits Package lululemon’s compensation offerings are grounded in a pay‑for‑performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $96,800–127,100 annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
