Purpose As a

Lead Piping Engineer

at Worley, you will provide senior-level technical leadership and project delivery expertise within our Canada West Engineering team. This role is responsible for leading complex piping engineering scopes across large capital projects and/or portfolios of small to medium projects, while ensuring technical excellence, safety, quality, and alignment with Worley’s global engineering standards and client expectations.

The

Lead Piping Engineer

is a recognized subject matter expert and discipline leader who plays a key role in driving engineering quality, mentoring senior engineers, supporting project execution, and contributing to continuous improvement of piping engineering practices across the region.

Key Responsibilities Depending on business needs, this role may function in one of two leadership capacities:

Project Discipline Lead (Major Projects)

Act as the Piping Engineering Discipline Lead on large, complex projects, supervising and mentoring teams of up to ~15 piping engineers and designers.

Provide technical leadership and oversight to ensure high-quality, safe, and compliant piping engineering deliverables across all project phases.

Work collaboratively with project management, engineering managers, other disciplines, and clients to deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Monitor engineering progress against approved budgets, schedules, and work plans; proactively identify risks and implement corrective actions.

Apply formal change management processes and support scope definition, change evaluation, and impact assessments.

Coordinate staffing and resource requirements with the Piping Engineering Department Manager and project leadership.

OR Portfolio Lead (Small–Medium Projects)

Act as Portfolio Lead for a group of small to medium projects for one or more key clients.

Provide technical and project leadership to a team of piping engineers executing multiple concurrent projects.

Coordinate resource planning and workload balancing with the Piping Engineering Department Manager and Portfolio Leadership Team.

Ensure consistent application of Worley standards, procedures, and best practices across the project portfolio.

Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex piping design, analysis, and constructability challenges.

Technical & Project Delivery Accountabilities You and your team will be expected to:

Deliver piping engineering services that meet Worley, client, contractual, statutory, and regulatory requirements, safely, on time, and within budget.

Lead and/or contribute to piping engineering deliverables, including:

Design basis development, specifications, datasheets, calculations, reports, and drawings

Participation in engineering studies, technical evaluations, and risk assessments

Support to procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning activities (e.g., material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, RFIs, site technical support)

Development and review of deliverables appropriate for all project phases (concept, FEED, detailed design, construction support)

Support the preparation of proposals, estimates, execution plans, budgets, schedules, and staffing forecasts.

Proactively identify, communicate, and manage changes to scope, schedule, and cost.

Ensure technical governance, quality assurance, and adherence to Worley engineering processes and standards.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving industry practices, technologies, codes, and standards related to piping engineering.

Foster strong collaboration and communication across disciplines and with project stakeholders, including clients, vendors, and construction partners.

Provide mentorship and technical guidance to senior and intermediate engineers, contributing to capability development within the piping discipline.

Identify technical issues and risks early, develop effective mitigation strategies, and seek support when appropriate.

Qualifications – What You Will Bring Technical & Industry Experience

Extensive and relevant piping engineering experience in energy, chemicals, mining & metals, infrastructure, or similar heavy industrial sectors.

Proven track record as a senior technical leader on large capital projects and/or portfolios of concurrent projects.

Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of piping engineering principles, design practices, and project execution methodologies.

Working knowledge of the interfaces between piping engineering and other engineering disciplines.

Demonstrated experience working within EPC/EPCM project delivery environments (asset).

Experience with piping stress analysis (asset).

Advanced working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations, including:

ABSA requirements for piping system design and registration

ASME / ASTM piping-related codes and standards

CSA pipeline standards (asset)

Proficiency with piping engineering tools and relevant design/analysis software; strong working knowledge of MS Office.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.

Education, Accreditation & Eligibility Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA (or eligibility to transfer immediately).
