Job Description
Are you interested in becoming part of a prominent engineering consulting firm that adds value for clients, communities, and the planet? Can you leverage your leadership skills and experience in regional and international underground structures and tunnels? Then this could be the next step in your career!
Create Solutions that will enable a better tomorrow
We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our global team of experts and work within a functional team that is responsible for performing engineering analysis, design, technical reports and drawings for tunnels and various underground structures, such as deep shafts, cut-and-cover structures, and mined tunnels and caverns for metro transit, infrastructure, bridges, or hydroelectric power projects.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate and work cross-functionally with engineers and project managers in the geotechnical investigations and the design, implementation, and oversight of medium to large exploration programs.
Perform technical analysis, calculations, and designs for foundations, retaining walls, slope stability, seismic factors, and related structures.
Perform 2‑D or 3‑D soil‑structure interaction analysis, geotechnical analysis, and dynamic analysis using advanced finite element software (Plaxis. FLAC, etc.), and perform geotechnical/structural design.
Perform the design and analysis of shallow foundations including bearing capacity and estimating settlement.
Perform the design and analysis of deep foundations using industry standard software (i.e. L‑pile, Group, GRLWEAP, etc.) and provide input to structural team members.
Classify, interpret, and characterize ground conditions from geotechnical data for various structures, prepare reports (GIRs, GDRs), and contribute to the preparation of design deliverable documents, including geotechnical design recommendations, follow quality control procedures in the preparation of calculations, design drawings, and specifications.
Implement design best practices in areas of expertise, in addition, to ensuring conformance with all applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
Visit the project site as required by the project (±80 percent of job responsibilities may take place out of the office).
Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future.
The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners, or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.
Requirements
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license in British Columbia or can obtain within 12 months of employment.
Minimum 5 years of geotechnical engineering experience on transportation and infrastructure projects.
Familiarity with the Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual, CSA Codes, National Building Code, and Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code.
Experience specifying ground investigations, including borehole/test locations and field/laboratory test schedules.
Skilled in interpreting ground investigations for engineering parameters and producing Geotechnical Interpretative Reports (GIRs) and Geotechnical Design Reports (GDRs).
Be experienced in soil-structure interaction analysis and preparing and checking engineering designs and calculations for deep foundations for bridges, and/or marine structure, etc.
Have experience with finite element software such as PLAXIS 2D and 3D and/or FLAC.
Experience designing geotechnical structures (such as deep retaining walls and slope stability) with experience in settlement/ground movement calculations and tunnel projects.
Be able to interface with other technical disciplines (structural engineers, environmental specialists, BIM, CADD, etc.).
