We’re actively searching for our next team member for the position of:

Manager, Mechanical Engineering

Responsibilities Include People Management

Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and designers

Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Ensure staff have clarity of expectations through the delivery of objectives and understanding key deliverables

Collaborate with Project Leaders to define scope, timelines, and deliverables

Track project progress, manage risks, and ensure timely execution

Coordinate with cross-functional teams including electrical, software, manufacturing, and marketing

Maintain schedule and established time standard compliance for all staff, i.e. by organizing and directly supervising staff, administering leave, monitoring, responding to staff headcount requirements, etc.

Treat employees fairly and equitably, have a sense of self-esteem, and are encouraged to develop to their full potential, i.e. by administering workplace policies and programs

Support employee development, i.e. by evaluating performance, providing feedback, and supporting their growth

Manage employee issues to enable employees to have a high degree of focus on their jobs, i.e. by resolving employee relations issues, performance problems, and disciplinary issues

Monitor and assign resources to new projects through collaboration with Product Development Project Leads

Hands-on leadership by establishing a robust system of daily behaviours and expectations necessary for driving team success

Product Development

Collaborate with the SEED team to transfer product ideas into Phase 1 of product development

Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, QA, product management, and systems engineering

Oversee the mechanical design and development of new products from concept to launch

Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost targets

Drive design reviews, DFMEA, DFM/DFA, and validation testing

Technology Development

Identify and explore new ideas and technologies to further our understanding of aerosol delivery

Derisk new technologies through designed experiments and simulation, to achieve technical readiness for product adoption

Technical Expertise

Provide guidance on materials selection, mechanical systems, thermal management, and aerosol science

Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory standards

Support patent development and intellectual property strategy

Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders

Present technical concepts and project updates to product leadership

Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure design intent is maintained

Regulatory

Achieve alignment of design and development activities with TMI’s Quality Policy and procedures

Ensure that products are developed to meet all regulatory requirements, including design controls

Health & Safety

Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, including the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.

Qualifications

Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronic, Biomedical) or a related field of study

Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation is an asset

7-10 years of product development experience within medical devices, consumer products, or a related industry

5+ years of people management experience

Experience managing complex product development projects with a proven track record of successfully launching new products

Experience working within a ISO 13485 regulated environment.

Experience medical device, pharmaceutical or aerospace an asset

Experience with design of plastics components for high-volume injection molding

Expert level knowledge in mechanical design and solidworks modeling related to plastic mechanical systems

Demonstrated knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and mold flow analysis

Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead teams of engineers to achieve results

Sound understanding of the complete product development lifecycle

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Stage Gate Product Development process experience

Ability to articulate problems and identify viable solutions
