We are looking for a Senior Enterprise Architect to help shape and evolve our technology landscape. This role plays a critical function in aligning technology strategy with business outcomes, while maintaining the flexibility to adapt as organizational priorities and leadership direction evolve.

Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities, and we are always looking for bright new talent to join our team! We currently have a full-time opportunity for a Senior Enterprise Architect. This role can be based out of one our main offices including: Mississauga, ON. Calgary, AB; Stellarton, NS.

The successful candidate will bring a broad enterprise architecture experience with demonstrated depth across retail store and unified commerce technologies. The candidate will bring the ability to operate as a trusted advisor to business and technology stakeholders.

What You’ll Do As a Senior Enterprise Architect, you will operate at an enterprise level, guiding architectural direction across multiple domains while balancing near‑term delivery needs with long‑term strategic outcomes.

Lead and influence technology decision‑making, ensuring architectures are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned with business strategy

Maintain a view of current, transition, and target‑state architectures across key domains, including:

Store technology (POS, in store systems, ESLs, peripherals)

Unified commerce and omnichannel capabilities

Customer, loyalty, promotions, and marketing technology ecosystems

Partner closely with business, product, and technology leaders to ensure architectural direction supports customer experience, operational efficiency, and growth.

Guide modernization initiatives by identifying capability gaps, technical debt, integration challenges, and proposing pragmatic transformation paths

Establish and evolve architecture principles, standards, and governance models

Support the solution delivery lifecycle, providing architectural guidance and oversight while empowering Domain and Solution Architects

Act as a generalist Enterprise Architect, capable of shifting focus across domains as business strategy, leadership priorities, or market conditions change

What You Bring to the Table Core Capabilities

Ability to understand and translate business strategy into architectural direction

Proven experience balancing short‑term execution with long‑term strategy

Ability to navigate ambiguity, influence, and align stakeholder groups

Strong analytical and systems‑thinking skills, with a pragmatic, outcome‑oriented mindset.

What You Have to Offer Experience & Education

Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field

10+ years of progressive IT experience, including 5+ years in Enterprise or Senior Architecture roles

Experience working within modern architecture frameworks and repositories

Domain & Technology Experience

Demonstrated experience across retail and customer‑facing technology, including:

Store technology (POS, in store systems, ESLs, peripheral integrations)

Unified commerce / omnichannel architectures

Loyalty, promotions, and customer engagement platforms

Experience designing or governing architectures that span store, digital, and enterprise systems

Familiarity with modern data platforms, e.g., Snowflake (considered an asset)

Exposure to technologies such as cloud‑native platforms, automation, AI/ML, and event‑driven architectures (considered an asset)

Additional Assets

Experience operating in large‑scale retail

Ability to mentor architects and contribute to the maturity of an enterprise architecture practice

Bilingualism (English and French) considered an asset
