Legal Alberta Veterinary Laboratories Ltd

Job Description

About Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) was established to accelerate the development of innovative technologies that reduce emissions and secure Alberta’s economic success.

ERA is a key partner of the Government of Alberta and Government of Canada in addressing environmental innovation priorities and actively engages with industry and other organizations to identify opportunities to accelerate technology scale up and demonstration where there is an identified market need.

The organization has also recently established the Fuel Innovation Fund (FIF), a subsidiary of ERA that delivers an emissions reduction funding program under Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulation. FIF receives contributions directly from primary suppliers as a form of compliance and FIF in turn will allocate these funds to projects that lead to the production of lower carbon intensive transportation fuels.

More information about ERA’s mandate, vision, and strategic priorities can be found at https://eralberta.ca/about-era/ and about the Fuel Innovation Fund at https://www.fuelinnovationfund.ca/about/.

Risk, insurance, and operational legal support:

Advise on risk allocation, insurance requirements, and contract provisions in operational arrangements (including leases and related documentation where applicable).

Cross-functional legal advisory:

Partner with internal stakeholders to translate program/business requirements into workable legal terms to ensure risks are reasonably addressed and guide teams on contract interpretation and next steps.

External counsel oversight (as needed):

Manage targeted outsourcing, review external counsel deliverables, and ensure advice aligns with organizational risk tolerance and operational needs.

Regulatory, legislative, and policy advisory

Monitor and advise on applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, and internal policies affecting agreements, governance, privacy, and program delivery.

5+ years relevant experience gained in private practice, government, in‑house, or non‑profit environments, with demonstrated exposure to regulatory, commercial, or public‑interest matters.

Ability to run multiple matters in parallel with strong organization and attention to detail.
