Overview

Simon & Schuster Canada is seeking a strategic, creative, and results-driven Publicity Director to lead and manage all aspects of publicity campaigns for our frontlist and key backlist titles across Canada. This role is a full-time, hybrid (2-3 days in office) contract position covering parental leave, with a prorated salary based on the duration of the contract. It is anticipated that this contract will last approximately 12-14 months. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of the Canadian media landscape, exceptional communication skills, and a proven track record of securing impactful coverage for books and authors within the Canadian literary market. Responsibilities

Develop and execute innovative national and regional publicity campaigns for new releases across multiple genres, with a focus on Canadian markets. Build and maintain strong relationships with Canadian media contacts including book reviewers, journalists, podcasters, bloggers, and influencers. Coordinate and oversee author tours, media interviews, book signings, literary festivals, and virtual events across Canada. Craft compelling press materials tailored for Canadian media outlets, including press releases, pitch letters, author bios, and talking points. Mentor and manage junior publicity staff; oversee workloads, timelines, and successful campaign execution. Monitor, analyze, and report on campaign results, media coverage, and publishing industry trends in Canada and abroad. Serve as a media spokesperson for Simon & Schuster Canada and its authors as needed. Collaborate closely with marketing, editorial, and sales teams to align messaging and maximize exposure within the Canadian marketplace. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, or related field. Minimum 7+ years’ experience in book publicity or a related field, ideally within the Canadian or international publishing or media industry. Extensive network of media contacts within Canada’s publishing and literary communities. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with sensitivity to Canadian cultural contexts and bilingualism considered an asset. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Passion for books and a strong understanding of the Canadian literary landscape and publishing industry trends. Experience working with authors and talent; strong relationship management skills demonstrated with diplomacy and professionalism.
