Position Overview Kiewit is expanding its new design team specializing in Nuclear and is seeking top performing contributors to support and sustain its growth over the coming years.

As such, we are currently seeking a/an Intermediate/Senior Electrical Designer to support the activities of the group. The candidate will work closely with the team’s Engineers and Designers to provide various services to internal groups for the development of Kiewit Nuclear projects.

In Canada, our experience spans all aspects of the nuclear market. We support our Nuclear clients on the new build as well on their operating plants through sustaining capital projects. Our broad capabilities and expertise allows us to operate in the power, utility, renewable energy, industrial and infrastructure markets.

Location This position will be based out of our Oakville, ON office location.

Responsibilities

Support the electrical systems design for nuclear projects in coordination with the existing Kiewit design teams as needed (structural, mechanical, piping etc.)

Lead the preparation of electrical design deliverables, including drawings, lists and schedules in coordination with electrical engineers.

Provide design input and advice based on experience and knowledge of industry best practices.

Support in the preparation and coordination of electrical design packages

Mentor and lead junior designers or drafters in their technical development

Support in the development of the engineering team by building internal tools and processes.

Apply ‘safety by design’ and ‘human factor principles’ when supporting design activities

Support in the development of the engineering team by building internal tools and processes.

Occasional travel to client site for walk downs and recording as built conditions

Qualifications

Registered Electrical Technologist or equivalent preferred.

3-8 years of relevant experience in the design of electrical systems with experience in nuclear considered an asset. The ideal candidate will have experience in the design of: Power distribution systems.

Electrical equipment layouts and general arrangements.

Embedded grounding, cable tray systems and duct banks.

Hardwired control circuits

Process and Instrumentation (considered an asset).

Lighting systems including control.

Building security, fire detection and telecommunication systems (working knowledge considered an asset).

Proficiency in 2D CAD software such as AutoCAD for drawing preparation.

Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as Revit.

Proficiency with the preparation and review process of design deliverables.

Proficiency in the preparation of: Cable sizing calculations and cable schedules

General arrangements, section views and detail drawings

Control schematics

Wiring diagrams

Bills of materials

Familiarity with clients’ Engineering Change Control (ECC) process

Familiarity with CSA Nuclear codes and standards

Familiarity with the design-build design process, construction/constructability, and typical testing practices.

Efficient and proactive with the ability to work independently and prioritize.

Strong communication and organizational skills.

Other Requirements

Openings are to fill both existing vacancies and newly created positions

Base Compensation:$90,000/yr -$120,000/yr (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
