About Child Development Institute CDI is a leading children’s mental health agency in the City of Toronto offering a range of services to approximately 3,500 children ages 0‑12, youth ages 13‑18 and their families each year. Our mission is to promote and support the healthy development of children and to strengthen the families and communities in which they live. We provide four streams of service to families in need: early intervention, family violence, healthy child development and specialized mental health services for children and youth with learning disabilities.

Position Summary Child Development Institute is seeking

energetic Camp Counsellors to join our dynamic Camp Wimodausis team for a 6‑week summer contract. This is a therapeutic day camp which operates out of CDI St. Clair Gardens site. Under the direction of Coordinator, Camp Wimodausis, the successful candidate will ensure that the conceptualization and delivery of CDI programs and services are consistent with the mission, values, policies, procedures, standards and priorities of the organization and are provided utilizing the SNAP® model, an evidence‑based CBT program that serves children exhibiting serious behavioral, emotional and/or social challenges.

What the role is all about…

Support the planning, implementation and delivery of Camp programs;

Ensure effective implementation of specialized therapeutic programming for camp;

Complete necessary reports related to the camp;

Assist with maintaining camp budget;

Act as a positive role model for children, youth, co‑workers and families;

Perform other assigned duties as it relates to the camp.

What we hope you will bring…

Bachelor’s level degree in Social Work or Child and Youth Counsellor (CYC) degree/diploma or degree/diploma in a related field; candidates currently working towards a degree in these fields will also be considered;

Minimum of one (1) year of direct experience with latency age children and adolescents and their families;

Standard First Aid and CPR;

Must have a current and valid police records check with broad sector screening;

Skills, Attributes and Abilities

Strong leadership, coaching, planning, problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skill sets;

Direct experience in a therapeutic or therapeutic recreational setting is an asset;

Excellent administrative, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;

Exceptional communication skills, both orally and in writing;

Ability to assume responsibility and exercise good judgment in making decisions within the scope of authority of the position;

Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment;

Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful and aware manner with groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Preferred candidates will have or are working towards experience in the fields of social work, child and youth care, and/or teaching.

Workplace Environment

Governed by concurrent and dynamic deadlines, despite conflicting priorities and frequent interruptions;

Occasional travel to other community sites;

Fast‑paced work environment;

Frequent handling of queries and calls from managers and staff;

Occasionally required to work flexible hours related to the needs of the camp.
