Overview Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled

Senior Mainframe Developer

who will lead the design, development, and maintenance of critical enterprise applications using COBOL, IMS, JCL, TSO, and MVS. This role requires strong technical leadership, problem‑solving abilities, and experience working with MQ, Kafka, and modern integration practices. The ideal candidate excels in improving operational processes, ensuring system reliability, and driving automation while collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams.

About The Role As a Senior Mainframe Developer, you will guide end‑to‑end mainframe development, implement modern design techniques such as Domain‑Driven Design and Event Sourcing, and work with tools like Endevor, CA‑7, Jenkins, Maven, and Git. You will support multiple databases, ensure secure integration through SSO and OAuth solutions, and independently resolve complex issues. You will also mentor team members, maintain high standards, and deliver solutions efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities

Do application design and development activities

Work in the development and support of Payments Platform applications, either SaaS or TD hosted.

Apply your hands‑on development experience.

Troubleshoot production issues as L3 support.

Analyze and evaluate technical aspects of projects, enhancements, fixes, and infrastructure changes to determine impact on interfacing systems.

Work with Vendors, internal IT Infrastructure Teams, and Business partners on the remediation of audit findings and vulnerabilities to ensure adhere to TD's security controls and standards.

Support the Business and Operations Teams during UAT testing for the Vendor's Production releases.

Support UAT testing including assisting with lower environment setup between application and downstream systems. Help resolve technical issues and where necessary, log defects on Vendor ticketing system.

Document and diagram data and process flows as well as infrastructure components.

Maintenance of proper artifact repositories for audit purposes.

Coordinate digital certificate renewals in all environments.

Set the technical direction for the product and influence the overall architectural direction.

Communicate design goals to the developers of the team.

Identify and leverage best practices in continuous integration and delivery.

Help drive transformation by continuously looking for ways to automate existing processes.

Explore new capabilities and technologies to drive innovation.

Continually drive to improve the product and the customer experience.

Lead, Inspire and Mentor team members on the use of Software Development best practices and Agile practices.

What You Need To Have To Be Considered

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience

7+ years of relevant experience and readiness to manage a sizeable group or team of IT professionals responsible for development/solutions design and/or system enhancements, new releases, or project deliverables with increasing complexity of moderate to broad scope.

Proven success in problem solving and producing strategies and plans for operational improvement.

Expert knowledge of the business, technology standards, managing people and projects.

5-7+ years of experience programming with COBOL, IMS, JCL, TSO, MVS.

Experience with MQ and Kafka is needed.

Practical experience designing and developing web-services using modern practices/techniques including Domain-Driven Design, Event Storming, Event Sourcing and CQRS.

Experience with development tools and frameworks such as Endevor, CA-7, Maven, Jenkins, Gradle, Git, and Nexus.

Database experience using DB2, IMS, SQL Server, and Oracle.

A passion for simplifying and automating work, for making things better, for being efficient and helping others.

Knowledge of SSO, MFA, PingFederate, OIDC, OAuth.

Able to keep up to date with emerging technology industry standards.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to establish a good rapport with stakeholders at various levels.

Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to work efficiently under minimum supervision.

Demonstrated ability to follow up on issues independently and ensure they are resolved promptly, escalating when necessary.

Self-starter, detailed-oriented and organized with strong time-management skills and the ability to multi-task effectively within a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Have

Cloud Platform experience (GCP/Azure/AWS).

Experience with Java, React.js, React-Native, Redux, Angular.

Volante Product knowledge.

GitHub Workflows/Actions.

Payments knowledge for SWIFT, LYNX

Salary And Other Compensation Applications will be accepted until March 8th, 2026.

The annual salary for this position is between $60,000 - $90,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
