Lead Electrical Engineer, Energy Storage
Mapleview Energy develops intelligent battery energy storage systems for commercial and industrial customers by repurposing retired electric vehicle batteries into high performance energy assets.
As we scale deployments across Ontario, we are hiring a Lead Electrical Engineer to own the electrical design, integration, and commissioning of our commercial and industrial battery energy storage systems.
This is a foundational technical role. You will work to define the electrical architecture, protection strategy, and execution standards for Mapleview’s second life BESS platform.
Role Overview
The Lead Electrical Engineer will lead system architecture development, protection and control design, construction ready drawing packages, interconnection strategy, and commissioning support.
You will work directly with battery suppliers, inverter and switchgear vendors, utilities, inspectors, contractors, and customers to ensure projects are technically sound, code compliant, and execution ready.
This is a hands on role suited to someone who wants to build real infrastructure and see systems deployed in the field.
Key Responsibilities
Own electrical design and integration of Mapleview’s commercial and industrial BESS systems
Develop single line diagrams, protection schemes, grounding plans, and construction ready drawing packages
Perform electrical calculations including load analysis, short circuit studies, protection coordination, grounding, and arc flash assessments
Ensure compliance with the Canadian Electrical Code, provincial regulations, and utility interconnection requirements
Work directly with OEM battery suppliers, inverter vendors, and utility providers
Provide technical leadership during installation, commissioning, and energization
Support business development with technically sound and cost effective customer solutions
Interface with utilities, inspectors, contractors, and customers
Establish engineering standards, documentation processes, and QA/QC frameworks as Mapleview scales
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
6+ years of experience in power systems, BESS, distributed energy resources, or renewable energy projects
Strong expertise in lithium ion battery systems, BMS, inverters/PCS, switchgear, protection, and controls
Experience designing and integrating commercial and industrial electrical systems, behind the meter experience preferred
Familiarity with CSA TS 800, UL 9540, UL 1973, UL 1974, NFPA 855, IEC 62933 and related standards
Experience working with Canadian commercial voltages such as 120/208V three phase and 347/600V three phase services
Experience with commissioning, testing, and field troubleshooting
Licensed P.Eng. in Canada
Comfortable operating in a startup environment
