The Opportunity
A rapidly scaling, high-growth IT services organization is seeking a
Director of Finance - Controller
to join its leadership team. This is a confidential search for a key strategic hire who will play a critical role in shaping the company’s financial infrastructure, supporting growth, and driving operational performance.

Reporting to the CEO directly, the Director of Finance will oversee financial strategy, operational finance, reporting, and risk management. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in financial leadership within consulting services or IT-driven business and thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented setting. Over time, the position is expected to broaden in scope, with a clear growth pathway toward a future CFO.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the organization’s financial planning and budgeting cycles, ensuring resources align with strategic growth objectives.
Handle core accounting operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll, ensuring strong internal controls and timely processing.
Monitor and analyze key financial performance indicators such as revenue forecasts, utilization rates, and margin trends to track results against the operating plan.
Partner with executive leadership to provide financial insights and recommend actions that enhance profitability and operational efficiency.
Develop and maintain executive-level dashboards and reporting tools that provide visibility into financial KPIs.
Manage corporate insurance programs and ensure appropriate levels of risk protection.
Lead the implementation, enhancement, and optimization of financial systems and tools to support scalability and automation.
Establish financial risk management practices, including scenario modeling and contingency planning.
Ensure compliance with tax regulations, audits, and corporate financial policies.
Support pricing strategy development through financial modeling and margin analysis.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field required, preferably accompanied by a recognized accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA).
5-10 years of progressive finance experience, preferably with leadership in a services-based organization.
Experience working with one of the Big 4 accounting firms is highly desirable.
Experience in high-growth IT, technology consulting, or professional services environments strongly preferred.
Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks and advanced spreadsheet skills.
Background with PSA/CRM tools such as Projectworks, HubSpot or similar tools.
Strong expertise in FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis.
Deep understanding of utilization, revenue recognition, and margin drivers within a professional services model.
Experience implementing or optimizing financial systems and reporting infrastructure.
Proven ability to collaborate with senior leaders, influence strategic decision-making and establish a sense of urgency.
A hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves leadership style suited to a scaling organization.
Base Salary:
$150,000 - $160,000 , commensurate with experience
15% bonus
8% RRSP match
All non-discretionary compensation will be discussed during the hiring process.
