This role provides subject matter expertise, oversees discipline quality, drives innovation in engineering practices, and mentors teams to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable process solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the technical lead and discipline authority for all process engineering activities across concept, FEED, detailed design, and execution.
Develop, review, and approve high‑level process deliverables, including PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, simulation models, relief system design, and process control strategies.
Provide expert guidance on complex process issues, including hydraulics, thermodynamics, process optimization, and system reliability.
Lead and participate in HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, risk assessments, and operability reviews, ensuring robust safety and compliance.
Oversee process design philosophy, standards, and methodologies, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Guide process modeling and simulation efforts using advanced software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, dynamic simulation tools).
Review and validate vendor documentation, engineering calculations, and key technical assumptions.
Support strategic project decisions by evaluating technical risks, design options, equipment configurations, and process improvements.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering leads and stakeholders to resolve complex design challenges.
Serve as the primary process engineering contact for clients, providing clear technical direction and ensuring alignment with project goals.
Mentor and develop process engineers at junior, intermediate, and senior levels, ensuring technical excellence and consistent deliverable quality.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, innovation programs, and development of corporate process engineering standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Process Engineering; Master’s degree an asset.
12–18+ years of process engineering experience in industrial sectors (oil & gas, petrochemical, energy, chemicals, utilities, mining, renewables, etc.).
Expert-level proficiency with process simulation and design tools.
Deep knowledge of industry standards, safety lifecycle practices, and regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated leadership in solving complex technical problems and guiding engineering strategy.
Strong communication, analytical, and decision‑making skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
Preferred Experience
Experience as a technical authority or discipline checker for large capital or brownfield projects.
Strong background in relief system design, flare load analysis, dynamic simulation, and advanced modeling.
Prior involvement in commissioning, start‑up, and operational troubleshooting.
Exposure to energy transition technologies (hydrogen, CCUS, biofuels) is a plus.
Experience working in EPC/EPCM environments with client‑facing responsibilities.
