Solutions Architect – Beanfield Beanfield is building communities through a 35‑year network of fibre‑optic connectivity across Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and beyond. Position Summary The Solutions Architect bridges business stakeholders and technology teams, owning end‑to‑end design of scalable, secure, and business‑aligned solutions. This strategic role aligns technology with business objectives, mentors engineering staff, and establishes technology standards within the Software Engineering team.

Roles & Responsibilities

Application Architecture

Lead conceptual and detailed design of new applications, features, and integrations.

Translate complex business needs into effective technical requirements.

Recommend technology stacks, cloud services, integration patterns, and third‑party tools.

Design for high performance and horizontal scalability.

Govern solutions to adhere to performance, security, and enterprise architecture standards.

Data Architecture

Design end‑to‑end data flows, ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption.

Choose appropriate data technologies (SQL, NoSQL, data lakes, data warehouses) and cloud services.

Define conceptual and logical data models for performance and maintainability.

Define integration mechanisms (APIs, message queues, ETL/ELT) to connect enterprise systems.

Design data security measures to meet regulatory and organizational standards.

Portfolio Management

Oversee the organization’s application portfolio, identify redundancies, optimize IT costs, and drive modernization efforts such as application rationalization and technical debt reduction.

Collaboration & Mentorship

Serve as the primary technical point of contact for development, QA, and operations teams.

Mentor engineering staff on architectural best practices and patterns.

Risk Management

Identify architectural and design risks early and recommend mitigation strategies.

Conduct technical reviews of in‑flight projects.

Required – Skills & Qualifications

7+ years in software development or engineering roles, including at least 3 years in Solution Architecture or Lead Technical Architecture.

Proven ability to design large‑scale, complex enterprise systems across application, data, infrastructure, and security domains.

Expertise in public cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, or AWS) and cloud‑native solution design.

Strong command of data modeling, networking, security principles, and the full SDLC.

Exceptional communication and presentation skills to articulate technical decisions and trade‑offs.

Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and DevOps practices.

Excellent problem‑solving and research skills.

Relevant certification: Google Professional Cloud Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or similar.

Preferred

Experience leading application rationalization, modernization, and/or replacement initiatives.

TOGAF or Zachman Certification.
